Google abandons X Phone project

Well, the source is from China, so she probably has access to hacked Google servers and knows for sure. ;) LOL

I seriously doubt that Google has or ever had any serious involvement...

That's an impossible thing to know right now. Unless you work for Google...

I claimed to know nothing. I said I doubt. If you would like to know, I doubt because of all the talk of Google not giving moto special treatment before the X phone rumors came out.

My vote for this rumor is 0% credibility. I believe they made it up entirely, not even misinterpreted or mistranslated. Whether or not they guessed right, who knows?

According to Sun Chang Xu ? Google no longer sees the project as innovative.

Nonsense. The Apple- and Dell-esque build-your-own-phone idea is extremely innovative.

I think this holds as much as weight as all those other rumors naming the outlandish specs that were to accompany the x phone. ;)

I was actually on the phone with Motorola last week. I was going through a warranty claim, but I got to talking about the X Phone. The tech said that he would check on it, and he put me on hold. He came back a few minutes later, and he said, "Yes sir, the X Phone should be coming shortly." He had no other specs or a release date, but he was sure on its existence and impending release. Granted, he could have easily been blowing smoke, but I just thought I'd share.

My take on the rumor is Google is done with giving their input and handed it back to Motorola to ship. Why would Google throw their hands up about it not being innovative enough, if that was their goal they would keep at it Google through Motorola needs at least a triple out of this.

this sounds fairly reasonable. They're probably just finished, and someone as usual twisted the meaning to "abandoned" to get troll their 15 seconds of fame. As for Google's announcement way back when they had just bought Moto - that they weren't going to give it special treatment - I honestly believe they're going back on that "promise". Or never intended to keep it at all. A lot of companies appear to be trying to get away from the 'I design the software, you build the hardware' OEM partnership model. If not fully, at least in part. I could easily see Google running their Nexus program while also directly involving themselves with all future Moto releases at the same time.

...boom.

A rumor about a rumored phone that may not even exist at all, but will come to market no matter what as something just so the rumor spreaders can claim that that is what they were talking about.

In other works, the next moto flagship is the X phone. No matter what involvement Google did or didn't have or what kind of specs it has. Even if all these rumors are false, they will be attached to whatever moto puts out and changed to fit the truth.
