I was just reading the Seattle Times and it appears that Google/Android has this feature built-in??? Anyone know anything about it? Is it like Amber alerts, etc. Does one have to enable it in some deep, dark menu under Notifications or elsewhere? I never can find where Amber alerts are buried!

Any info will be appreciated. After all, I want my two seconds warning before the earth splits open and my 100 year old house shifts off its foundation and falls four feet to the sidewalk and then is inundated by a tsunami!!!

Thanks in advance.

FYI, I just installed MyShake to give it a try, and noticed the phone already warming up and battery starting to drop relatively quickly. This is presumably because the app has to remain open in the foreground to utilize the sensors. There's a battery-saving option in the app's settings, but that's not as useful for their data collecting. The battery hit isn't worth it for me.:-\

It was rolled out in California in August, recently expanded to Oregon, and now rolling out to Washington: https://blog.google/products/android/introducing-android-earthquake-alerts-outside-us/

If you're interested in participating, I would install UC Berkeley's app MyShake.

Thanks but the article I read said that neither provider, public or private will be extending it to WA - money issues - who would have guessed.

But it made it sound as if there's something already rolled into Android??? I will look further.

Oh, that sounds promising - NOT! You get notifications for the five minutes the battery lasts. :)
