Hi everyone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 (At&t) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (wifi only). As of today, whenever I try to open the Google app, which I do constantly to check weather, news, etc., I have a blank screen except for one card. The card says "New version available" and below has a Play Store link to get the update.

When I go to the Play Store, though, there is not update. It says I'm running the latest version of the app. I have tried disabling the app and uninstall all updates to then reinstall. I've tried clearing the cache. I've tried turning the phone and tablet on and off. Nothing works.

Any suggestions? Anyone else have the same problem? Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Thank you!

Did you clear the Google app cache or the device's cache partition?

Also, what version of Google Play Services are the devices running? I'm on 10.2.91.

Same here- I know that's no help and up in the list of world problems it's pretty far down the list; but it is annoying

Same issue popped up on my S5 today. Help!

I had the same problem on my Pixel XL. Tried everything mentioned above. Then decided to join the Beta program thinking that would force an update of some sort.

It did (to a new version of the app, from 6.10 to 6.11).

However, even then, I still get the "New Version Available" loop.

I am having the same issue on a Samsung S7. Tried factory reset and still says update available. App is unusable.

Same thing... Mine started last night Google Now launcher cards are broken also. Started about 9pm CST

1. I am using an S7
2. I'm a "beta" app user, although uninstalling the beta version does not resolve the issue.
3. Resetting phone does not resolve the issue.
4. Clearing cache does not fix
5. Removing adding accounts does not fix

Sure looks like a Google problem

Just uninstalled beta version and installed Version: 6.11.19.16 and still have the same issue. At this point Google search works but none of the cards work, Google Now cards screen obviously shows the "update" error but there is no update.

@Mr simian; Cleared both tose, Google app Android device cache. And I checked and I'm on the same Play Services version. Thanks for the suggestions though!

At this point though, I'm glad it isn't just something wrong with my devices. I had searched online but couldn't see anyone stating about it and wasn't sure if it was a known issue or not.

Hi,

I have the same issue with my "Google Account" Here's what I have noticed so far. Incidentally I got a replacement Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge yesterday and I noticed this issue after I completed the initial device setup. But it did work fine initially.

Here's what I have observed so far:

1. This started happening around 9 PM CST.
2. I signed up for beta testing to install updated version but that did not help.
3. Reinstalling Google App, clearing app cache or android cache partition does not help.

4. This issue is not specific to a device, it's tied to the google account. I see this on my original Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (the one I am getting replaced under warranty), My wife's Galaxy S7 Edge(when I add my account to her device) and for that matter even on my Nexus 2012 tab.

5. Adding a different google account resolves the issue. This is not an ideal solution though, since Google now cards are based on data from google account and using alternative google account will not show you cards which are relevant to you.

6. Another possible solution, but it has limitations:

Navigate to Google App settings -> Account Privacy -> Google activity controls and turn on Web & App activity. Go back to google now cards and swipe down on screen to refresh. Google now cards start working and the "New version available" message is not seen any more.

Limitations: You will not get cards related to traffic updates, location, cards based on your web and app usage. This pretty much beats the purpose of using Google now cards.

Extremely frustrated with this issue. Hopefully there is fix available soon.

Hello.

I woke up to this too. I use now cards more than I thought as it turns out.
Like others I'm reassured in a strange way that it's not just me.
I'm using a Moto g 3rd gen.
I will wait for Google to adress this. I suppose that it being the weekend isn't helping.

This is defiantly the work around everyone. Here is what was in place.

1. I had two google accounts in place last night...
2. Google app/ cards stopped working
3. Cleared cache, removed and added accounts, reset phone. Nothing fixed it.
4. Added just one account, did not fix it
5. As Amol suggested add another account... one I never use on my phone
6. That did not fix it
7. Delete previous accounts... Bam! started working right away. Asked me to agree to stuff and pick my cards/customize it.

now...

8. Added original accounts back in one by one... still working
9. Remove the "third" account I added to make all this work and well it broke the Google app and cards again asking for an update. So yea it's an account issue in regard to the Google app. I think Google owns this...but I don't know what is causing it with the accounts.

I have the same problem on my Nexus 5 running Marshmallow. Google Now just displays a single card "New version available" even though no update is available. I only encountered this problem this morning, and I expect it was because I downloaded and installed an update to the app (I manually install all updates, but figured Google's updates would be solid). I then uninstalled the Google app update and then reinstalled it, but all that did was wipe out all my folders and widgets on my home screen and replaced them with default Google app folders (very annoying) and I still have the "New version available" issue. I'm seeing a few reports in the Google app reviews on Google Play of the version issue, as well as many reports from Samsung users that the latest update is resulting in a com.android.systemui error when trying to launch the app. Google really f**ked up something in the latest update.

Hilarious... If you opt out of the beta program Google suggests you "uninstall and reinstall the app" Thanks Google but you can't do that since the Google app is considered a system app all you can do is disable it therefore you can only roll back to some ancient version which might have come with your version of android, which off-course crashes and I can't force install a non beta version of the app for whatever reason.

This issues seems to be fixed for me now. I added another google account and switched to it (only in Google App) for a while that was at least showing me the cards. Now I tried switching back to the the original account in Google App and it is working as expected. I still have the second account added though.

Btw, when the problem was there, adding only one account (not my original google account which had issues) also fixed the problem for me.

Now everything seems to be working fine. I an pretty sure this was at Google's end (server side) since no app update was pushed to fix this issue.

Update : On my Nexus 7 tab which was still showing the "New version available" message, I just tried refreshing by swiping down on the screen and I see the Google now cards. This device has only one account (my original account which had issues)

I hope this issue is fixed for everybody.
