Google Apps and Calendar Invites

Just switched from an iPhone to S5. I searched these forums extensively but have not found a solution to my issue:

We use Google Apps for our work email - I have no personal email accounts. On my iPhone, when I receive a meeting invitation (either from another Apps user or an Outlook/Exchange user, I got an alert that allowed me to quickly accept or decline the invitation, and if accepted, the meeting would be added to my calendar. The iPhone used Google Sync (MS ActiveSync).

Now, on my S5, I setup my Google Apps account with the Gmail and Calendar apps from Google. I love these apps, but I do not get meeting invitations in the same way. They simply show up in my gmail inbox, and if opened, I get a formatted email with "yes" "maybe" and "no" links (which randomly open either in Chrome or the Samsung Calendar app). If the invite was sent from an Outlook user, I simply get an ICS attachment, which randomly opens in either the Samsung Calendar, or just gives me a message saying there is no app that can open the file.

What I would ideally like is functionality similar to what I had on my iPhone, where calendar invites appear as their own alert type (whether from another Gmail user or an Exchange user), where I can accept or decline without flipping through multiple apps. I've already tried removing the Google account from my phone and simply using the "corporate" option which I assume is MS ActiveSync, but I don't like the Samsung Email or Calendar apps. I'm very surprised the standard Gmail and Calendar apps don't work together out of the box to do this. Any suggestions?

Ok, looks like the app "Nine" does exactly what I want. The interface is still not quite as good as the gmail app but I get all of the functionality I need. Only problem is, it costs $10 - which doesn't seem like much until every person in my small business starts wanting the same thing. Does anyone have any other options?

Thanks.

I have a similar issue with a small twist. Event invites sent to others end up with wrong times - usually several hours off on the appointment / event. I am in the Pacific NW, the invitees are all within 100 miles of my location in the same time zone (Pacific) but NEVER receive correct times for the meetings / events.

The only thing I can come up with is Google Calendar is determining time zones based on ISP of the invitee's email accounts. Has anyone else run into this or better yet found a way to resolve the issue.

Thanks in advance.

How are you sending invites? Employees in the central time zone seem to get my invites fine when sent from Google Calendar on my s5.
