Google assistant button while locked

Is there a way to make the google assistant button work while the device is locked? I'd like to be able to say my command or ask a question just by holding the button and then unlock ths phome. Not the other way around. Id thst isnt possible doesn't it defeat the purpose of the button.

Good question. I'd like the same thing.

I tried the same thing. the button is garbage.....I just say ok Google with the phone locked because it recognises my voice and unlocks the device
