Android Central Question

I got a Samsung A70 with Android 11. I have switched on Google assist to work when the phone is locked and although Google assist does respond to 'hey google' or 'okay google' when the phone is locked I have to physically touch the on-off button to wake the phone up. Google assist is not working when the phone is in standby mode (black screen but still switched on) which defeats the object of having the hands-free hey Google in lock mode. I still have to press the on-off switch, but if just on active lock screen where it asks for my pin it will work.
Any idea how to fix it and make it work in stand-by mode?

Lock mode is very limited what you can do with Google assistant that's for security reasons, I'm sure you wouldn't want someone say hey Google read my contacts, messages or unlock the phone.

I registered just so I could respond to this comment from "mustang7757".
This is a hugely important feature for me - to be able to remove all security, finger print
verification, PIN, facial recognition, and dark screen locks of any kind. totally hands-free
operation is fantastic, and it worked great on my old phones: a Moto X4, and
currently my Pixel 5. It's a royal pain in the *** to have to enter a pin, or a fingerprint
to wake up the phone. And fortunately, the Pixel 5 let's you bypass all that. I don't recall exactly
what I did, but now I can let the phone go dormant, or whatever, into "dark screen" mode,
lay it down on my dresser, go to bed, and hours later, I can still say "Hey Google" and,
for example, find out the weather, or have my messages read. And the key thing is, I don't have
to touch the phone!!! I am considering to buy a new phone - specifially a Galaxy Z Fold 4, and
I simply must have this same hands-free "wake up" functionality. Does anyone know if
there's a way to set up the Fold 4 to work the way my old Pixel does? Thanks.

Hi welcome to AC!
Your question is different from what OP.asked with the screen locked, you can set up yours without any locks on the device if you like , meaning no pin , password, biometrics, pattern etc.
