I am surprised there has been no posts on the new Buzz by Google. I saw this today and was pretty excited until they started to leak information that it is only available for version 2.0 or higher of Android. Not a lot of happy people out there.

Yeah, kinda dumb that it only works on 2 android phones.
Meanwhile, theres the mytouch, g1, hero, iris, moment and clique that get the nice big shaft.

I've been trying it out on my Droid and I must say I'm very impressed. I can see this taking off once its on more devices.

I think there's already too many social networking options. It fragments into too many things to keep straight.

I have some friends that insist on sending updates and invitations to lunch via Facebook....

Some are on Android devices and use google talk...

Some who are perplexed that I don't use Skype...

One friend who still uses Blackberry messenger and refuses to accept the fact that I no longer "get" his messages...

Another guy who wants to IM thru yahoo...

Twitter? never done it...

Myspace? is anyone still on that...

Then there's location sharing with Latitude...

aaaaaaaa!! make it stop!!

Does the world really need ANOTHER way to share status information and location? Do I really want to know who's standing in line at the grocery store? Do I care about your kids' poopie diaper?

saw from the video it can sync with certain stuff, like twitter and whatnot, how is this done....? if it can't sync to facebook though i'm throwing it in the virtual trashcan

Buzzzzz

Does anyone line the new buzz or is it a big yawn? How do you think it can be improved?

Love Buzz, only issue i have with it so far is that i cant seem to follow someone while in map mode, i have to leave maps and pull it up in the browser.. that kinda sucks

It's still not active in my gmail account and, sadly, the mobile site doesn't work for my Android 1.5 phone yet.

Wonder how long it will take google to build momentum and eventually compete with the likes of facebook.

Appears to have a lot of potential, but at this point I think I have quite enough social networking tools and dont really need another.

I'm kind of worried about this app. I love Google tools normally but this one bothers me. I shouldn't be able to get a strangers home address from an email account I don't even have approved of to be on Buzz via google maps on Android. Has Google thought about the potentially nefarious uses of this tool?

I sat and waited for it all day myself kept refreshing the page and all, but onithing. Everyone else had it but me!! So I logged out of google and logged back in and shazzam there it was!

I hope they stop trying to compete head to head with social networks, and instead decide to support them by becoming an awesome aggregation service. That would have amazing potential when tied in with Android.

I'd love to go to one place to get up to date on Google Reader, Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, and all my other sites..

It does have some great potential and with it being built into Gmail it just makes it that more appealing as long as my email address is not everywhere for anyone to see. Looks like it just puts your name out there, I can deal with that. Will keep trying it out...

One thing I do not like so far is how you add friends... I have to give out my email to people who want to add me? Not happening... If someone else knows a better way, please share it.

Can someone explain the features that make this not compatible with devices below 2.0?

Because I'm running a rooted HTC Dream and I can update Google buzz notifications from my phone just fine.

I read somewhere it is because the mobile Buzz site requires HTML5, which the browser on less than 2.0 cannot support. However, Android's 1.6 map can apparently handle the Buzz layer, I understand?

FWIW, you can send emails (with photo attachments, even) to buzz@gmail.com to create a new buzz from your phone (you must send from a gmail account), and you can reply to buzz email messages in your in box. I can even follow the links that are in those email messages to see what other people have commented within that conversation (this is running a 1.5 Eris).

Showing up to the party a little late, huh Google? Should integrate nicely with Wave once that takes off, too :)
