Not sure if this is something that you have wondered about but I found the way to get my contact info to sync with calendar. In gmail on the pc click on the calendar tab. On the left side it has a option to view other interesting calendars. Open that, then you should see three tabs, go to the last one and on the top of the list it should have a view contacts birthday and events. Subscribe and then sync.

Another tip.
You can sync your fb cal too. From a pc (or phone if you can access full site- browser pending) click on events then export. Copy the link they give you then in gmail go to your calendar select other and import from url
