In its services and repair terms and conditions, Google says it will keep devices sent in for repair if they have a non-OEM part.

Pretty sure this is already against the law in the U.S, maybe even covered under Magnuson-Moss. The only time I've heard of something like that being legal was when an aftermarket part or modification violated federal law (many in the trucking industry found that out the hard way after bypassing EPA emission controls).

Not the first time a company tried to skirt the law regarding repairs. Those "warranty void if removed" stickers hold no water in the U.S. but companies still routinely use them.
