I'm trying to Google Cast audio from YouTube to my Sony SRS-X88 speaker which supports Google Cast. I can play something from Deezer or Spotify but YouTube doesn't work. Can anyone make any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central!

YouTube might not support casting just audio, you might just need to play it vs casting it.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

They advertised it in the advert they made for Google Cast. A girl clearly casts a YouTube video to her speaker during a party so I'm not sure if they advertised it wrong or if they don't want to support YouTube casting any more.

Check this out on kickstarter : JoyDrone - Music Adapter for Chromecast
You could listen music with youtube , pandora , spotify and any other app which supports chromecast
Chromecast + Joydrone adapter gives you the ability of casting music to any speaker at home .

This is a late reply but you are absolutely correct. What you and I have been asking for has arrived through the Google Cast Audio dongle for $35. I have personally tested the ability to stream the audio from both my laptop and phone app to the Cast Audio dongle while the video continued to play back locally. Unfortunately, my LG LAS751m Cast Audio soundbar does not support this. I suspect, LG will have to update the Cast Audio version on the soundbar to support this functionality. Google must have released this dongle knowing that manufacturers are notorious about supporting updates and would abandon their buyers on older versions of Cast Audio. With the dongle Google has successfully made speakers a commodity.
