Google chat issues

I have an issue on my son's 5.

New provider. New SIM. Number port to preserve his number. All worked fine within 24hrs.

The issue - he uses Google messages for a couple of people . The chat function is stuck on the number associated with the new SIM NOT his own number. So the temp number he had for 24hrs waiting on the port. So any SENT texts come from this random number.

Tried - cleared messages app data / cache and re setup. At this point you can manually validate your number via a button that briefly appears. It still connects to the temp number regardless.
His own number is also validated in the Google account settings.

He's probably enrolled in RCS chats. under the temporary number. When changing phones or phone numbers, it's best to un-enroll before changing, then re-enroll after the change is made. This expedites the "registration" process. So if he un-enrolls now, Google messages should revert to SMS messaging and everything should come through. It may also help to go back into settings, and toggle off, then back on, the setting for default texting app.

Yes, this is what has happened. Although he didn't "do" anything like enroll whilst using the temp number for 24hrs.

How would one un enroll?

Yes , we have toggled the chat feature off and on . As well as clearing the data and setting back up from scratch.

I've recently had the issue on a port in...just toggled it off and use regular messages for a bit ..I didn't clear app data ..just waited and entered back my phone number that was being ported and it clicked on

How would one un enroll?

You did the un-enroll by toggling off and as said above, these changes can take a couple days to take effect.

Just an end to this- the key was leaving the chat function OFF for 2 weeks. This de registered the temporary SIM number.

Had previously tried a few days and it didn't work.

Now all is working as expected.

Would have been nice if Google tech help had pointed me in this direction.

The tech most prolly had no idea unfortunately...glad you guys sorted it out rcs is a nice feature imo
