Google Contact existing notes deleting when new note added.

When I edit a contact from my Evo, and want to add to the existing note, I get a prompt to add a new note. if I use this field, it deletes the existing note on the contact in both the phone, and on the cloud.

I can add to the existing note (and it won't delete) but the field barely show up with the keyboard on the screen. So it is hard to work with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
