Android Central Question

When adding a contact shortcut to the home screen, Android adds the purple Google Contacts symbol to the shortcut picture. It is redundant (I know that is a contact) and partially covers the picture.
How can it (Google Contacts symbol) be removed from these shortcuts?
This appeared relatively recently, if I'm not mistaken (Android 9?). Contacts I placed on the home screen say a year ago are not spoiled with the redundant GC symbol.
Phone: Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact
Android: 9
Contacts: 1.7.31
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to Android Central! What if you use the Direct Dial widget instead of the Contact widget?

This just happened to me when updating a photo of one of my contacts. Now any that I attempt to add have the same issue. I ABSOLUTELY hate this. Why have a photo if it is going to be in the shadow of a logo. It's redundant as it is obviously a contact. I've used other apps in the past, only to lose many contacts when an upgrade was pushed to my phone. Anyone know how to get rid of the logo? (It appears on the direct dial and direct message too)

Welcome to Android Central! I just noticed that if you use Nova Launcher (which I always do), you can edit the shortcut icon to eliminate the badge. Simply long-press the icon, then Edit, then uncheck the Badge tickbox.

Nova is the remedy. but it seems to lack other features the std UI provides. message and call count is missing with Nova. or am I missing a feature of Nova

Welcome to Android Central! You can change the Notification Badge style in Nova to the old-style Numeric Dots (as opposed to the more current Dynamic Badges).
