Recently I've noticed that Google Earth won't run correctly on my S8. When the app is started, it just hangs while the little blue circle spins and spins. If I click on the die icon to choose a random location, the spinning stops and GE flies to the new location, but everything remains extremely blurry. There is no definition at all unless I zoom out to where entire continents or even a hemisphere is visible. Needless to say I'm not happy abut this. I've never not had Google Earth working, since I started using Android devices around 2012 or so. How can Google Earth not be working?

I'm not sure but it's certainly possible that this started when I downloaded a recent update to the OS, build number NRD90M.G950USQU1AQGL. Has anyone else noticed the same issue?

Here's an example of what Google Earth looks like in my phone now:

So THIS is happening! (Google Earth issue on S8)

I have some further details on this problem, and they turn out to be something I never would have imagined. Long story short, the problem apparently lies not with my phone or mobile carrier, but with either my home ISP or WLAN; the former most likely. For the long version, read on.

A couple of weeks ago I went to one of my mobile carrier's stores to tell them about my Google Earth issue, and to ask whether other customers had reported similar problems. Not too surprisingly the answer was no. Just then, however, as I was trying to show the problem to the salesperson, I noticed GE was working fine! It seemed as if GE had somehow fixed itself, and I didn't think about it for some time after that.

Sure enough, the problem came back, and it took me still longer to notice that the problem was happening only at home, where the phone automatically connects to my WLAN. So I finally got the idea to turn off wifi, and now GE worked fine. This might sound like it could be an issue with my WLAN generally, but I doubt it. I've noticed no trouble with other data intensive apps or websites. Netflix and other streaming sites work fine. Youtube videos load and play immediately. While it does appear to be the case, at times, that data speeds are faster on the mobile network, the speed provided by my ISP should be more than adequate for GE at any time.

By contrast, I've never encountered this problem with Google Maps.
