Google Hangouts

OK, so I don't exactly know why this happened but let me tell you an interesting story about my Google Voice number and hangouts. I'm on a Vnex.

When hangouts asked me to supply a phone number, I used my Google Voice instead of the number given to me by Verizon. Hangouts accepted it and everything was fine.

Later, I was on Google+ and also messaging with one of my friends via the Hangouts on the right side of the screen that is embedded within Google+. I received a phone call through Hangouts on the webpage! It said (XXX) XXX-XXXX wants to hangout or something like that. I thought that maybe one of my friends found me by searching for my phone number. So I answered right from the website within the browser. It opened a popup window with a video hangouts UI. There was no sound, so I hung up. Then I immediately picked up my phone and it was showing a missed call, a regular missed phone call! Soon, it started ringing again, I answered again from the Google+ interface and this time, I heard the person calling me. It was a misdial and I told them so. I think Google Voice integration is closer than we think it is.

Having said that, this caught me completely by surprise and a good app or service shouldn't do that. Am I going to miss calls because I leave Google+ page open on my browser when I leave work/home? I don't know. We need clear settings for all of this.

That must be what happened to me as well, I didn't attempt to answer as I was working. But very interesting....

Hasbrobot, its nice that some people are getting the update via the play store, others are forcing it from the play store (web not app) but not everyone is this lucky. Corolla90 just said they tried from the web based play store yet you have suggested exactly that. I'm in the exact same boat as Corolla90, visit https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...50/http://play.google.com/blah&token=f9c8pjVJ blah blah link and it says Installed, click it anyway and try to select my phone NOT my tablet and it says it is already installed. I'm still trying to get it to update, considering using root file explorer to delete the talk apk, but not sure on the ripple effects this might have.

If anyone comes across the fix I would love some help too. If I find a fix I will post it ASAP.

I'm in the same boat. Web store says it's installed phone still has talk app. I'm sure it will eventually make its way down to my phone, just curious that it seems most people upgraded without a problem. Nexus 4 Stock

Need to update through the browser, not the Play Store App for now.
Just send it to your phone via the Website.

Worked fine for me.

Don't work for me, said you already installed it...

Anyone else having a problem getting notifications of new messages in Hangouts?
Some contacts send me a chat message, and no notifications sound. Yet if I open the hangouts app the message will be there.
I checked, and haven't silenced notifications, have sounds assigned, and notification volume all the way up.
This thing seems pretty unreliable to be taking over for the rock solid Google Talk app.

Also people I sent text chats do are saying they have the same problem, and don't get notifications.

You have opened the web app at the same time?I notice the same thing only in this case

You mean the PC desktop App which is still called Google Talk, or some other Web App?

Not using any other Web app on my android phone.

Ok, just uninstalled hangouts and TALK reappeared. Was able to get notifications from talk.

I think I'll stick with talk for a while longer. Hangouts has some serious problems.
It seems not to work well unless you have a Google plus account.
