Google I/O Evo's not able to be activated yet

Ok, I'm convinced. Will try again later today :-)

By the way, did they add the $10 data fee for the Evo to your plan?

The $10 premium data charge was added automatically, even though the system didn't recognize the phone as an Evo. Then I had them add the hotspot as well.

None of this worries me, I plan to utilize the free account. I get the phone tomorrow and I plan to just give my friends my Google Voice number. I may give them that number from here on out.

My Evo showed up on saturday. I tried getting it activated with the special number on the pamphlet twice and it was a no go. I ended up starting an account an activating an old palm pre I had lying around. Right now, its showing I'm still upgrade eligible and want to buy another Evo on the 4th and will probably sell the I/O.

Now that I see some others are having luck getting them activated now and would like to try again, but don't want my eligibility affected. Did anyones upgrade date change after adding the evo to the main line?

Its a pain in the ass carrying around two phones, worse comes to worse I guess I could just wait til the 4th, get another Evo activate it on my current sprint line and then port my verizon number in.

Your Upgrade will not change.

I was wondering the same thing. Good to know my upgrade eligibility is not effected. I'm due for an upgrade again in January. Hehe...I do enjoy new gadgets.

Upgrade resets when you buy a phone thru Sprint/authorized retailer and buy a new phone with the upgrade price.

Third time was NOT the charm. I called again and they flat out said it cannot be done, and that the people who say they have done it may have issues with their phone seeing their network correctly because the Evo is not fully in their system yet.

The conversation went like this (totally paraphrasing from memory):

Me: I'd like to transfer my number to a new phone.
Sprint: You have the new Evo?
Me: Yes.
Sprint: Unfortunately, we cannot transfer your number until June 4th.
Me: Interesting. I have heard reports of people being able to activate it already.
Sprint: Yes, I've heard that too but honestly I don't know how they are doing that since the Evo is not fully integrated into our system yet. So it won't see it correctly.
Me: What do you mean "it won't see it correctly?"
Sprint: Since the Evo is not fully in our system yet, those phones may have problems seeing our network correctly.
Me: So June 4th, huh?
Sprint: Yeah, sorry about that.

Not sure how true that is but this is the third time I've called and gotten a no-go. Anyone who has had it activated...any issues with the network?

I was just able to do it. The first rep told me they could not do it, I asked for a supervisor. Had to get a call back, but when I got it he apologized and had no trouble moving it to my account. Took about 15 mins to cancel the Google account, change my plan, and add it to my account. Provisioned with my info and tested before we hung up.

What does the $10 charge say on your OLAM? EVO add-on? Premium Data add-on? What is the SOC code?

for those of you have jumped the gun and transferred your # can i ask why? it came with free hotspot i mean thats 30 bucks a month right there not to mention the additional 10 bucks just for a 4g device. i mean cmon you guys did you even consider keeping it? when was the last time sprint gave you something for free lol? i dont mind having 2 phones until then i think its bad ass that i can use hotspot for free since i know once they root the phone wireless tether will work like a charm. its just not logical

I know I'm not going to use the hotspot feature at all. The free month is not as important to me as the convenience of having it set up as MY phone.

Agreed I had to pay for service on my primary line anyway as I demo the evo...and carry two phones. Just didnt make sense to me. It comes down to FREE vs carrying 2 phones...:D

I'm on day 25 of my 30 day Verizon trial. I had to get out before and return the Verizon phones before the 30 days is up. That's why I bought the Evo's and activated the lines w/ Sprint. Otherwise I'd be stuck with Verizon for 2 years. There's no way for me to keep the demo phone and still be able to transfer my cell # to Sprint.

Forwarding only forwards voice calls right? My texts would still be lost in the ether?

I think so. And also, I called Sprint and asked about forwarding calls and they said it would cost $0.20 per call plus a minute rate or something like that. I tuned out as soon as he said it would cost anything.

So all in all, it's basically a "no go" with activating one of the Google I/O phones onto a active sprint account...correct?

Not until June 4th. That's what they keep telling everyone..."call back June 4th and we can transfer your number over."
