I took apart my Nexus 7 today in order to fix the loose screen, and I noticed there was a quite large empty space with some screw holes dead center at the top of the device... Camera?

Old news.

Asus WAS panning it however decided against it for cost reasons

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Android Central Forums

It would be kewl if they sold a DIY camera kit for the Nexus7 for us.

Back when this was the Asus memo 370t it had a rear facing camera and no front. I think they made the better choice in the long run.

As nice as it would be to have a rear camera I can't imagine the quality would be very good. I'd rather them spend the extra cost and improve then front facing one.

' ?To make this device accessible to the widest possible market, price is very important,? the Taiwanese firm argues.

?Asus believes that for this device a good rear camera is important [but] adding a high quality rear facing camera will increase the price point and many users would not have a use for it. Adding a lower quality rear facing camera would compromise on the overall user experience so the decision was made not to include [one].? '

i never understood why people want a rear facing camera. They're never as good as even a semi decent point and shoot(even still most are pretty bad) and plus you look like a bit of a fool holding up a tablet to take photos lol. Im glad they ditched it to keep the cost down.

I gots me one of them 16 Megapixuls Pansonik Lumicks camras, which does the vid'os and them stil phtos and it wurx great for $89 bucks on the eBbay. And its a camera, which a table iznt!

I have to agree with the other guy in here. Why does one need a rear facing camera on the Nexus 7? I just don't get it.

The front facing camera is all I really need as well. I don't even use the rear facing camera on my phone much.

Agree with the other posters, there's no need for a rear-facing camera.

My only minor complaint with the front-facing one is that I wish they would've angled it slightly toward the display, instead of perpendicular to it. When I'm holding the tablet I'm not looking directly at it, or 90 degrees head-on. When using it for video chat you have to hold it at a weird angle to get your image to present properly.

Small nit, I know...
