Google keyboard

Agreeing - SwiftKey's predictions are so on-point Google Keyboard can't even keep up.

Swiftkey just will not spell certain words while tryna swipe. I think it sucks in comparison to Swype. Yes, it does predict well, but prediction is not nearly as important as being able to swipe what you intend to swipe.

I have tried many but always go back to SK. That's just me.

I've been using Swiftkey for a while, mostly for the bilingual capabilities.

However recently I got a lot of nonsense words appearing in my text and found myself having to erase words much more frequently than usual.

So I gave the Google keyboard another try. I think it does a better job at autocorrect than Swiftkey, so I now have much less mistakes, but I agree it's not as good for predictions.

I just type fast without paying much attention and usually Google keyboard will get it right.

Agreed regarding Swiftkey, just hated it typing a bunch of weird words. And, it wouldn't type intended words. I think Swype is the best. You can make words like 6P in Swype and it will allow you to Swype it every time. Neither Swiftkey nor Google allows that functionality. But, I like the Google keyboard set up in PC mode. The number row up top is great. And, I like being able to slide along the back button to erase however many words I choose to slide/erase away. Plus, the Google keyboard genuinely gets better with use unlike Swiftkey which seems to get worse.

PC mode? What's that?

I'm currently using the Google keyboard and wish I had the number row up top like my Note 5!

Edit-Never mind, I found it. Thanks guys.

OK here's another good question regarding Google keyboard. I love typing one handed. Do you out the Google keyboard into one handed mode so it's easier to reach the keys?

I am using the SwiftKey Beta. I like the number row on the top and the different themes SK offers.

that is a cool feature however, in the new Android N Google Keyboard, Users can non theme the keyboard even with a custom picture of whatever it is you choose. Furthermore the numbers row is nice, but i have my press and hold millisecond on about 150 MS which is nice...

I used to use SwiftKey, but then tried Google Keyboard a couple years ago and have pretty much stuck with it. I can't recall what it was, but there was something very annoying about SwiftKey...I think it had to do with punctuation like commas or periods or something. I remember it irked me every time I encountered it.

I have tried Fleksy a couple of times because some people swear by it, but I missed gesture typing and just didn't see what the fuss was about. Perhaps I didn't give it enough of a chance. Samsung's keyboard is functional, but a bit unappealing visually.

yes, i agree with you. I used to use Swift key keyboard all the time, but trying Google Keyboard out, is nice, its fast, easy to use and finally much more customize able finally.

My beef with the Google keyboard is that it doesn't automatically insert the default word (the word that's in the center of the suggestions) until it becomes highlighted, which in some cases it doesn't do at all, and in other cases it takes too many letters to cause it to become highlighted.

So that forces me to reach up to select the default word, which is a hassle, and slows down my typing. So it doesn't really matter if it has great prediction if it won't insert that word as soon as it appears. YMMV.

Yeah I can understand what you're saying. I've just got to get used to it. For me, not enough of a reason anymore to use swift key though.

If Google keyboard would implement a split mode, I'd probably try it again. But until that's added (it was in for a very short time when MM was in beta), I just can't switch from SwiftKey on my tablet. Split keyboard mode which allows thumb typing when holding the bigger device is just so much easier to use.

Mmm ok then, I gotcha. Typing quickly, one-handed, definitely works with this keyboard. It's pretty slick for typing so far.

I use it in one handed lefty and it's very nice. I have the key height set taller to allow a little more room to slide over the letters. It's a pretty neat keyboard TBH! I don't miss Swype at all.

I have my keyboard set to middle mist of the time. I'll have to try that taller option our. You don't find that the taller option the up too much room even though though?

It seems to work fine for me. The keys are more narrow when in one handed mode so the extra height is a neat adjustment that gives a little more room to hit the right keys.

Google Keyboard ended up lagging for me, and I wasn't impressed with the predictions; so I went back to SwiftKey. Best keyboard app I've used. Of course, I get what you're saying about Google, OP. It's got an impressive lineup of apps. ;)
