Hey all,

I love that the maps app is now on the watch. But when driving, I really don’t need the watch buzzing so much and using battery to display turns. The phone is right on the dash in front of my face.

I think it is good for pedestrian trips, but not car trips (for me).

Anyone know how to set it to not notify when phone is on? Has anyone gotten this to work?

Thanks,
R

This is the reason I didn't think it was a big deal to have Google maps on the watch, it would be a battery hog.

Usually, if you catch the notification on the pulldown shade, you can do a half slide and it will reveal the option to go to notifications. Once you select that, Android takes you to the notification section and watch closely, as the notification type you just received will flicker so you can toggle it off.

I found that same issue when using Here navigation app on my phone/Gear S2 and I was able to disable every turn by turn notification.

Agreed, the only time I would use it is if I were walking around downtown and needed walking directions to get to a location. I have been in this situation before, but not very often. Even then, the only real advantage there is keeping you from pulling your phone out.

Yeah last night on our way home from this wedding my husband saw that the phone GPS was displaying on his watch when he didn't need it cause the phone was right their in the dock but it was kind of cool to see it in action. :-)

I ran into this issue for the first time today. At first I thought it was annoying. But then I realized that everytime my girl plays music from hey phone on the car, I can hear any directions on my phone at it is still connected to my car by Bluetooth. Now at least I have something to tell me to check what is telling me to do on my phone.

Discovered something cool. If you don’t want the watch to notify you because you are looking at the phone, just go to recent apps and kill all (or just maps).

No more notifications for that trip.

You can easily turn it off this way:

Open Maps on the watch. Hit the magnifying glass icon, scroll down to the bottom and find settings. Turn-off Auto Launch.

Cool…I’ll check it out…I may leave it as is since it is easier to kill the app then go through the steps if I don’t want notifications on the watch…. I’ll have to see how it goes.

Thanks for posting this!
