This is a known issue, from what I've read online. It seems the Bluetooth (Maps) connection does not shut off if you open Maps on your phone and will quickly drain your battery. I have been trying unsuccessfully to create a Tasker profile that will automatically close Google Maps, if my screen goes off, as occasionally I need to look an address up during the day and sometimes forget to close it. It's the only workaround I can think of until the bug gets fixed, which I am surprised this is still an issue now that a 2nd generation is coming out. This could have gone into the apps forum, but I thought since this is affecting Wear users, maybe somebody around here has thought of this for a workaround.

So far my only "fix" is to use Nokia Here maps.
