Google Maps Display

Driving Mode

I've been trying to fix DRIVING MODE on my Pixel 3 with posts on DISPLAY, a few threads down, but haven't solved the problem yet.
I never got a an answer to "Why doesn't the microphone show at the bottom of the screen?" Could it be that the device is not detecting DRIVING, therefore not going into DRIVING MODE?
This feature is a very important function to me.
The appearance of the microphone near the bottom of the screen, is a clear indicator that DRIVING MODE is on. I can't make that happen. Please help.

I merged your recent new thread, since it's about the same issue.

I think you confirmed this earlier, but just to be sure -- the toggle for "Launch Driving Mode -- When Navigating in Google Maps" is turned on, correct?

Yes it's on. But the problem seems to be that DND gets turned on automatically when the car senses motion. That should not be a problem because from what I've read, that's the way it auppossed to work.
For months, it worked perfectly for me. Somehow, it just quit.
I've tried everything with the settings. I have DND allow Maps. No matter what the settings, DND shuts down the audio of navigation and the only thing that works is the Map works OK.
I am, by any means, not an expert on Google Maps. I even thought that perhaps the device was not sensing motion, and as a result, did not allow DRIVING MODE. I still haven't heard "What triggers the microphone to appear at the bottom of the Navigation screen. I'm assuming that when Driving Mode is working, that's the trigger.
I have had several strange issues lately with the Pixel 3, one of which is the loss of Battery % on the Toolbar. That happened during the installation of Google 12.
I'm afraid that “FACTORY RESET " will be suggested. As past posts will reveal, I'm fearful about that and have used workarounds to avoid the RESET, but this Maps issue is too important to me, to just " LIVE WITH IT ".
If I decide to go the RESET way, I will need expert advice on how to do it. I have almost 8 years of data on the Pixel 3.
I would like to exhaust all attempts to fix this Maps issue before I have to "bite the bullet". Thanks.

Since this has been an issue before, I figure I should check -- you haven't adjusted the display dpi to make everything larger again, have you? If so, then try reverting the screen back to normal size.

No, I didn't change anything. It worked fine a week ago.

Do you even get the Driving Mode's 4 square app drawer button at the lower right?

Have you tried re-enabling Android Auto, even though they're phasing it out? There was a recent update to that app, so try re-enabling it and updating it.

I thought I replied to your post earlier but I don't see it here.

I have also started an email support session with Google One. So far they are just asking BOILER PLATE questions. I haven't had any success with this group before. We'll see.
Thanks for hanging in with me on this maddening program.

You did reply to that post -- it's post # 26 in this thread.

What about what I asked in post # 27?

No, I do not get the 4 enable square app enabdrawer. When should that show up? When setting up the trip, or when the car is in motion?
I did re-enable Android Auto, but it didn't make any difference.
It's going to be a few days before I can test any changes, but I'm anxious as hell to resolve this issue. Thanks again for all your help.

You could try going to Settings>Reset Options>Reset App Preferences.

Done. I've never used that Reset option. Now all I have to do is wait for an opportunity to test it by driving. That IS the only way to test it, isn't it?

If the "When navigating in Google Maps" toggle is on, I think Driving Mode should open regardless of what you're doing, but I can't test that right now.

If driving Mode is active, will the microphone be visible near the bottom of the Navigation screen, even if the car is not in motion?

On my Pixel 6 Pro, if I choose the Driving directions (and not the Walking or any other), the microphone and the big App Drawer button both appear at the bottom, even if I'm not actually driving.

Has OP done a clear data and force stop maps yet?

Yes, I've cleared the cache and Force Stopped, twice. The Driving Mode instructions state, DRIVING MODE will start when driving is detected. Maybe Pixel 6 does things differently.

I think my problem has been that DND, which I've been using with Maps, somehow has messed up the Driving Mode.
I've made many changes to Maps in trying to fix the problem. Before I make any more changes, I'm going to test it again while driving.
You all have been so patient with me. Thanks.

Make sure to also clear the app data, not just the app cache.
