Google Maps - Downloading Off Line Maps for directions when offline?

Hi there,
I've got most of it figured out but just wanted to ask,

Q: When downloading an off line map with the intent of using it later for in-car navigation to a location, is it necessary to zoom out to be able to see my starting point also?

It just seems logical but wanted to check to make sure.

Thank you!

No, if you put in a destination, it will set up your route.

But you have to be online at that time or Maps won't be able to get the location of your destination (it goes to a specific latitude and longitude, not to an address) from Google's server. Once the destination is set, you can go offline.

So, I should set up the direction / journey first, when on line, as opposed to just the destination?
