google maps frozen and refuses to work, disabled and load Bing maps

Went to use Google maps to day to check a location. It opened as usual but the home screen just would not do any more. No key board came up when I hit the search bar to enter the address. I thought may be it was because of where I was, quite built up and tall bulidings. Stuggled to find address but got there in the end. Anyhow got home and attached to the wi-fi and still nothing. Everything else works except the maps. Un installed as best then updated via play store three times and no better. Gave up in the end, diabled it and loaded bing maps which works with no problems. Anyone else had this problem??? It was the latest update so no issues with being too old.

No issues here... I use Maps multiple times everyday and with Android Auto link too.

Try clearing data on the app restarting the phone... Maybe even a cache partition wipe especially if you haven't done one in a while (I recommend every 3 months as preventative maintenance).

Sorry a what now? I did clear the date via settings, apps, etc but no better. Whats a cache partion wipe? Instructions gladly appreciated.

Instructions are for G4 but the process is identical.

Thanks for that tried it and it magically works again. So I've doubled checked my app permissions to see if any thing had changed. low and behold, yes. Google maps had turned all the location, location history and map history permissions on.

I'm in the Uk and were one of most spied nations in the world. As such I like to keep this kinda thing off. I see no reason why google maps needs to know what I was looking for, when I looked for it or where I currently am. As such I've tried to use maps with the loction settings off and the app doesn't work. So thats going to be disabled and I'm sticking with the bing maps apk I've down loaded. That works without any history or location permissions being turned on. It even asks if you want to keep your map history or not.
