Google Maps keeps draining my battery even when its turned off

Google Maps is draining my battery all of a sudden. Under Battery Settings it is showing 25% usage since last full charge when I haven't used Maps at all and the battery is flat in only a few hours. This is with all Location settings switched off, with location sharing and location history switched off and Maps application cache cleared. What is going on? Is Google overriding our settings and spying on us?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Try clearing the app cache and data (not just the cache) for Google Maps. And no, this does not mean Google is spying on you.
