Google Maps Locator Icon Motion

I have noticed that when navigating using Google Maps, the blue navigation icon "skips" or "jumps" when tracking your location. It is really noticeable when driving. Does anyone know if the icon motion can be smoothed out in future updates so that the navigation icon will not skip from point to point?

It's probably just because of the GPS inaccuracy we all have to deal with right now. I'd bet it will smooth out for you after the DJ05 update is rolled out and we all get a real fix to that.

I actually have noticed this happening on some other devices as well. I'm not so sure if it's a GPS issue because once it finally locks onto your position it seems to run perfectly.

In my experience the jumpy behavior happens while it's using A-GPS, and it goes away once it locks on a regular satellite connection. I have been testing DJ05 for the last week and I can promise this phone has one of the best satellite radios I've ever used. Even without A-GPS enabled, I'm getting less than 90 second locks on cold starts. You guys that have been stressed out about this (I was for sure) can feel good that there's a real fix on the way.

Hmmm, when I use it I usually have about 5 satellites that are locked on, but it still seems to skip. Not a real big issue, but I have noticed on a friends iphone that the navigation icon runs smooth. Maybe we will see a fix for this.

EDIT:

Sorry for the newb question, but how exactly do you turn off A-GPS?

Thanks

Do you have a task killer installed or anything like that? How does your phone perform overall? It seems weird that it would skip around like that and your friends doesn't.

When you go into settings > location & security you will see a setting called VZW location services. A-GPS uses the carrier network antennas to formulate an approximate your location using a method called triangulation. The Standalone GPS services setting turn on the actual GPS receiver that uses the birds up in the sky to determine a more exact location. If your satellite icon is blinking, it has not locked onto a satellite yet. You may have already known all that, but I thought I'd throw it in anyways :)

Nope, I don't have any task killers, I just use the task manager and WatchDog lite, which is suppose to just be a more advance task manager, not task killer. I have "Standalone GPS services" enabled as well as "Google location services". I usually run the GPS Status app before opening Google Maps to make sure I have a lock. Once the satellite in the notification bar stops blinking I open Google Maps. I am not rooted either, running Launcher Pro Plus and it runs great.

You sound like you're doing all the right things. I guess if it were me I might try an uninstall/reinstall of Google Maps and see if that resolves it. Aside from that I'm not sure what it would be, unless there's a conflict with WatchDog.

OK, I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling Google Maps and get rid of WatchDog and see if that does anything. I appreciate the help.

Keep us updated if you don't mind.

I first uninstalled and then re-installed Google Maps and then I got rid of WatchDog Lite, but I am still seeing the Nav. icon skip. Pretty obvious, but the more I zoom in the greater the skip is. It's almost like the Nav. icon is lagging. Not really sure what might be causing it. Is anyone else having this issue or is everyone's Nav. icon motion smooth?

Thanks

From everything I've ever noticed mine is smooth, but the next time I use it I'm going to pay more attention to it because now I'm wondering if maybe I've just never noticed. I'll let you know my results
