Google Maps makes screen turn off?

Hello

Riding around in my car, I leave my GPS unit on even though I dont put a route. I tried doing this with Google Maps and my Android phone but after a while the screen turns off. How can I prevent it from doing this?

In Google Navigation, it doesnt do this but I have to set a route, which is pointless if you are just cruising around.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have your phone charging while in your car? If so, you could go to Settings/Developer Options, and check "Stay Awake (Screen wil never sleep while charging)."
