Google Maps Not Updating Position in Split Screen Mode

I had this problem on the S7 as well and was hoping Google would fix it, but still happening. Whenever I split the screen and have another app (such as podcasting app or Tasks app) open in split screen, Google Maps freezes my location and so it becomes worthless for navigation.
Any suggestions appreciated...

Try tapping the maps screen to make it the foreground app. It will update after that.

I watched a youtube video, one of many, where the reviewer mentioned that the maps needs to be the last one to be added to split view. Try that and let us know.

Yes, making it the foreground ap did the trick.
It's still not as functional as before the Android update--On Note 7 it updated even if other app was active and you had more flexibility in sizing (e.g., I could show just the player controls on a podcasting app--now, you can't resize that much.) Which is all to say Google seems to always go backwards.

I noticed the same thing although the voice directions were still correct
