Is there a way to have the maps feature switch to a nighttime mode like a tomtom gps?

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think presently the only way you could do that is turn down your screen brightness and then launch maps. There is no night time mode currently.

I believe navigation does switch automatically....don't think maps does.

Mine switches on its own when it gets dark. I never figured out how to set it manually.

Pardon me if this is a stupid question. But, why would you want google maps switch to a night mode? Wouldn't that make it more difficult to read the maps?

I can understand on the navigation, but not on the maps.
