For some reason the sattelite view on Google maps has many blacked out areas. Update did not help. Any suggestions?

It depends on the region you're trying to view. Does the same happen on a web browser? Many areas (especially in Asia and high-end residential zones) have requested Google to remove satellite and/or Street Views of their areas. If the view you're trying to display is a military-protected zone, it may be blacked out or only visible at low detail (top level eagle eye only, can't zoom in). Also, not all areas are available at all zoom levels. Try zooming out and seeing if the areas you're missing appear.

Thanks for the suggestions. Appears to be an app problem. OK via browser Chrome an Firefox. Looking at CT.

I'm having the same issue, google earth works fine. I'm in Indiana, but was looking at the Florida panhandle area. Doesn't matter where I try to look black square everywhere.
