Google messages app help

[Android Central Question]

I have just switched from a note 8 to a pixel 3. I always use the Google messages app. How do I get my sms/mms messages to copy to the pixel. I thought it would go automatically but it hasn't. Any help would be appreciated.

in the initial setup of Pixel 3 it gives you the option to transfer from phone o phone: text/sms messages, photos, videos, etc using the cable
