Question Google Messages predictive text lost its memory/history

Google Messages used to have good suggestions based on my history. Now it behaves as if it were my first day.

Galaxy A23 5G. Android 14. T-Mobile service.

For example, I am always checking the soups of the day at a store whose name starts with "Foods." Usually no luck. I text my wife "No luck at Foods" several times a week. I used to laugh that when I started a text with "No" that the word "luck" was the first suggested continuation. Then "at" was suggested, then "Foods" was suggested. Now, the suggestions are random and unhelpful. A family I know has three kids with distinctive names, and it would suggest a name when I was several letters into typing that name. Now, it is clueless right up to the last letter.

Any ideas about what happened, and how to fix it to start learning again?

when you didn't send message for a while, the suggestions goes away as it has to be entered again, then the second time you will find the words in the suggestions

Not sure what you mean. The behavior has changed significantly in the last couple of months.

Which keyboard are you using? I think the predictive text would depend on the keyboard app, not the messaging app.

I use the default Samsung keyboard, and that has never changed during my usage of this phone.

I'm not really familiar with Samsung Keyboard, since I stick with Gboard. Let me see if @mustang7757 has an ideas.

I have used Gboard for the last few years, for the Samsung keyboard I would suggest enabling Google grammar and voice to text to make it a better experience and that can can be found in settings>general management

I think it all depends. I use Gboard, SwiftKey, and the Samsung keyboard equally, and all seem to work equally well for me.

I try to like the Samsung keyboard maybe it has improved but I know every time I used to type with it. It was so frustrating or just maybe it’s my writing style lol

Do you use swipe typing? I do, so maybe that makes a difference.
