I'm not sure how it's been with nexus devices in the past but do you think there will be carrier bloatware on the different versions?

The Nexus concept has historically been as a developer device, with easily unlockable bootloader, and which would receive direct-from-Google OTA updates to the OS. Carriers installing bloatware and locking the bootloader would defeat that purpose and require invested time on the part of the carrier to generate and OTA update on their end that is compatible with their bloat -- something that they aren't too keen on doing as it makes it more difficult (at least on contract programs) for them to keep users in the cycle of upgrading and perpetuating contracts when the devices have less and less substance in way of upgrade.

So we won't know for sure till they launch, but most likely they will not have any bloatware. Bootloader is another item altogether - if you want to be 100% certain of a pure, flexible, google-delivered android experience, get it from Google Play.

Yes. There will most likely be two versions. The "Pure Edition" from the Google store and the "Pure Android Experience" (Bloatware Edition!). That's what AT&T did for their subsidized Moto X2. Don't believe me? Go to their store page and see for yourself.

Key features include:
5.2” HD display
Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 quad-core processor
13MP camera with 4K capture
Pure Android™ experience
Moto voice control

LOL.

Google doesn't make "pure android", it only make "pure Google". Android itself is open source, while nexus is filled with Google proprietary apps.

I see little difference between apps pre-installed by Google and those pre-installed by another party.

Same comments from this guy here and xda. Glad they made an account just to knock on the Nexus.

Last I checked the Nexus phones weren't reskinned from the ground up. They have always been Android the way Google intended and comparing preinstalled apps from Google to the drastic overhauls you get with Samsung, LG, and others is ridiculous. Not to mention the whole "timely update" thing.

Lol, every os needs a face, Google put up a skin, everybody else does that too. There is no legit reason to suggest somehow everybody should love one skin over the other. You can have your opinion, but don't force on others.

Android is an open source project, if Google wants to completely turn it into its own proprietary os, that's fine, call it Google os, chrome os, or whatever. But as long as it remains an oss, there are differences.

What you guys are strongly favoring, is nexus, not pure android. That's pure and simple.

I'm a Nexus owner. I have a Nexus 5 and love it. I would be sorely disappointed if Google does to the Nexus 6 what they did to the Moto X2.

What is "Pure Android"?? I've never seen that besides a Google Play Edition or Nexus phone. Last I checked, it was Google who produced Kitkat, Lollipop, and a whole bunch before. What gives carriers the right to stuff their crap on top of what Google produced and get away with announcing "Pure android!" ?

What the hell are you even talking about? I'm comparing your statement about Google being guilty of bloating the Nexus phones just as badly as companies like Samsung, which is laughable, and you come back with that?

Maybe you should read up on the history of Android. It is an open source project run by Google and their version of it IS the pure version, however being open source companies like Samsung and LG can alter and skin it however they see fit. None of that changes the fact that the core code rolls out of Google's headquarters and they are the ones that make it what it is so the other companies even have something to alter.

If it wasn't open source than Samsung and the likes couldn't do what they do, but again, this doesn't change the fact that they are modifying Google's OS.

What world are you actually living in?

I think he is talking about the Google apps that cannot be uninstalled. Stock AOSP has none of that.

Possible, but that isn't at all what I got from what he said. I personally don't even consider AOSP to be "Android", but that is a discussion for another time in another thread.

The point I'm trying to make is that Google themselves release the OS as Lollipop, Kit Kat, Jellybean, etc, and then manufacturers like Samsung take it and fill it with a ton of other crap. Based purely on that concept alone, the version of Android that comes on Nexus devices is very much "pure". Once Google puts out a new version the features of that version are merged into AOSP and can then be utilized by others, which again points to the concept of Google's release being "pure".

On the most part, I agree with you. I was just trying to clarify.

Getting mine from the Play Store so I am guaranteed an untainted phone. Also I can take it and move it to another carrier if I so desire. Just a matter of swapping out sims. I wonder if the Play Store and Motorola store will be selling the same phones or if Motorola will bow to the carriers. The Play store phones will be pure.

That is correct, any manufacturer is technically offering the purest form of android and then adding on a 'skin' of sorts to provide basic apps every user will need. So the argument that Google is putting a skin on its Nexus phones is viable, but it's worth pointing out that devices for which any OEM doesn't include that 'mandated' set will be denied the ability to access the Play Store, which is pretty fundamental to enjoyment of the actual Android experience. Anything beyond that (changing icons, screen manipulations, alternative/redundant apps, etc) is reasonable to consider, in comparison to the Nexus setup, to be containing bloat (and also require additional efforts on part of that OEM to deliver OS updates).
