Google Nexus 6 Random reboots?

Got the 5.0.1 OTA yesterday.

Today, got back from lunch after using it at lunch.. put it on my desk and within 5 minutes, super loud AT&T reboot sound. Screen wont turn on. Yay.. gotta manually restart it..

Have you posed in my Google Product Forums thread? Please do so.

I have been waiting for this phone to get back in stock from Moto so i can order one. But after following this thread as well as the one on google forums I'm not so eager anymore. Looks to me like the best thing to do is wait until there is some resolution before I make my purchase.
Curiously i haven't seen any of these issues being reported through the media, cause that would certainly make google and Moto wake up and pay attention.
Hopefully it can be solved with a software fix, but what if it's hardware? are they going to recall all these devices?

Nexus phones are a niche product. If iPhone or Galaxy phones were tanking it'd be all over. iPhone for sure.

We all should email Phil, Jerry and the writers for the other popular Android sites to see if we can get a feature post put up on their front page..

I've already done one better:

I just checked the google forum that you opened. But now it is flagged as completed. I didn't see any solution posted did they just close the issue or did i miss read on the solution. In any case was it resolved?

Guess i'm a little to quick ... just checked again and back paged through that thread and saw Paul's response. Guess I missed it the first time through. Sorry for any confusion.

Would it be possible to edit your first post to let people know that the counter may keep going when one of the random reboots occurs? You can install an app called Reboot Logger to check, and I've also made a Tasker profile for device bootup which posts a notification when it happens.

I see a lot of people posting fixes, but quoting the uptime, which is misleading. I've seen twice now my phone reboot in front of me, without the counter resetting.

Dont seem to be the carrier specific issue. Am from India, and having unlocked one. Rebooted twice. Once when not using it. Another time when using ES File explorer. Seems to be random. Lollipop glitch.

Hi

Same here. I bought the N6 on Monday (5 January) in Germany in a shop. It's the blue one, 64 GB.

On Tuesday the phone rebooted a few times (I pressed the power button before to turn off the screen).
But it is stuck in fastboot / flash mode and does not react anymore. The battery is dead now but I'm still in the fastboot mode.

There are google Nexus forum discussions about this problem. Many people experience this problem.
I will have the phone repaired or replaced on Tuesday.

The sad thing is I'm reading numerous reports of people who get their faulty N6 replaced and then the replacement does the same thing. Some have had this happen more than once. The lack of a documented fix is keeping me from going ahead and purchasing this phone.

I have had one random reboot, this occurred after I turned on the phone after charging , it just froze on the home screen, I tried holding down the power button, after several minutes it rebooted....

My T-Mobile Nexus 6 routinely reboots itself when I am playing music through my car's Bluetooth stereo system. Sometimes I'll notice the reboots occur when I use the car's forward/back buttons. Anyone else with similar issues?

Haven't read all the comments but mine used to restart multiple times a day, had one replaced and the same thing happened with the replacement, until I read on some article that turning off the "Ambient Display" has resolved the issue for some. Haven't had any restart issues ever since I turned that feature off. Hope this helps.

Purchased blue 64GB on January 19 from Motorola. No issues. If factory reset doesn't fix the issue, swap it out for a replacement unit.

Mine was fine for the first month +/-, then rebooted or shut itself off a few times in one week. That was a few weeks ago and it's been fine since.

Once a day mine reboots. My moto 360 vibrates as it loses connection and it's rebooting

Posted over at the Google forum but apparently it wasn't welcome there.
For me, it seems that the News & Weather widget was triggering the reboots. Might not work for everyone, of course, might be other widgets (especially if they access WiFi/mobile data), but if you have any running, might be witty removing them from your screen and seeing if it helps.

The problem is so comprehensive that it seems unlikely that removing just one app would solve it for everyone---but, at the same time, maybe it would for some. I hope that your phone continues to function without rebooting. Let us know how its working after some time has passed. There are so many variables it must be difficult to figure out the cause, but the common denominator is the phone and the OS. There is obviously an issue with one or both of those.

I can understand some conflicts between third-party apps and Lollipop, but when someone has to turn off a feature that came with the phone to get it to work properly (Ambient Display as mentioned above), that's just not right. We should be able to buy a phone and have it work properly---more than 4 months after release---and we should be able to use all of its advertised features. We should also be able to make or receive a phone call without dropping the call because it reboots, and we shouldn't have to endure multiple intrusive reboots at other times.

For me, it seems it was an Xposed framework extension called HowGiveLolli. Definitely non-essential so I can leave it disabled until the author issues a fix. The reboots, for me, were anywhere from 5min to 12hr apart, it's been 16hr since the last one (when I disabled the plugin) so, at least for me this seems fixed.

I'd say in most cases this is a software issue, especially given the known memory leak in Lollipop; certain apps likely trigger the leak worse than others, and even more so given certain configuration options (e.g. synching more frequently). The easiest way to track it down (unfurtunately, it's a bit time-consuming) is to disable or uninstall any non-critical apps; if that doesn't stop the rebooting, disable or uninstall everything but the Settings app (otherwise you won't be able to re-enable or re-install things). If that doesn't stop the reboots, you've likely got a hardware issue; if it does, re-enable or re-install your apps, one at a time (probably the most critical apps first, so you can start actually using your phone sooner) until the reboots start again. When they start, you've found the culprit; clear its cache and data and if that doesn't fix the reboots uninstall or disable it. Keep in mind that you may have multiple apps causing reboots, so don't get excited and reinstall or re-enable ALL of your apps when you've found one that causes issues; keep with the one-by-one program until you've checked them all.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
