Since we have a day or two before/if an announcement, tell my why you value the Nexus line? What are the benefits and drawbacks?

Re: Why Nexus?

No bloatware
cheap price for good specs
get updates first
very fast compared to other skinned stuff

Re: Why Nexus?

Price
Unlocked
The radio covers all major bands for all (GSM) carriers
You can pick your carrier and painlessly change if necessary

Re: Why Nexus?

Benefits:

Fast updates to new versions of Android
Great platform for Google's apps and services (no skin to alter the appearance or functionality)
No carrier bloatware

Drawbacks:

If this is your only phone, there are some features that skins from OEMs offer that are not fully replicated in third-party apps. Whether or not those features are needed/wanted varies from person-to-person, though.

Re: Why Nexus?

Pros
you can run a hundred different roms and kernels from XDA and make your phone better

Con
you can run a hundred different roms and kernels from XDA and lose any life you have as you flash a new rom every day
also no CDMA support

Re: Why Nexus?

I prefer stock android over anything else out there. Its also such a good price I can upgrade yearly and I don't have to worry about contracts

Re: Why Nexus?

It's android in it's most pure form as Google intended it to be! Skins have their place but just take up memory and slow the device down! And without a doubt updates updates updates!

Re: Why Nexus?

Question: Is there a difference between skins and 3rd party launchers? I have used Nova Prime launcher on my fairly generic Android tablet and been happy with it. It doesn't seem to slow down the tablet--just makes it easier to do the things I want to do with it with fewer steps.

Re: Why Nexus?

Skins are much more than a launcher. Animations, redundant apps, useless features, etc. are included.

I've never had a Nexus device. Currently using a WP8.1 device. I will switch to a Nexus 6 should one come out within the next few weeks...

Re: Why Nexus?

There is such a misnomer with the word "skins". It's not line the different OEMs are just putting a different look on the phone. They are customizing the source code of Android, essentially creating a new OS. It's like Linux. Ubuntu and Mint are totally different, but they are still Linux. Touchwiz and stock Android are different but both built from Android open source project (AOSP) source code.

Pure android
Unlocked
Great Price
No Contract
Backed by Google for at least 2 years
Most importantly no bloatware and no carrier commitment.

Exactly this. Plus stock looks much cleaner and in my opinion more beautiful.

Re: Why Nexus?

And how good is Google service? Is their warranty service any good?

Google service from what I have read is excellent. They just gave all their Nexus 5 owners a one time FREE REPLACEMENT of the Nexus 5 if it was damaged in any way! A friend of mine had dunked hers in a lake and it was totally dead. She got it replaced! I would say that is amazing.

Is their support only for people who bought the nexus through google play? I think I heard that somewhere.

No, not really. Mint is based on Ubuntu. Majority of the code, DE, repo's, file system, etc. is all the same.

TouchWiz is not a different OS than Android. It's a 'flavor' like Mint is of Ubuntu. The Core OS is there, with 'enhancements' in areas as the manufacturer sees fit.

Personally, I'm only interested in Android if I can get a Nexus 6. Android is not as fast as WP, but the purer the Android, the smoother and more stable experience I would expect to have. I was interested in a 1+1 but was reading of people brushing off bugs requiring them to reboot the phone...crashes, screen issues, etc, because the hacked up copy of Android on that device is not stable.

I was interested in the Note 4 but Touchwiz even manages to lag the S5...so terrible.
