Google Nexus 6P Having battery issues: read me!

Re: Having battery issues: read me!

Just charged my phone after 48 hours and 3.5 hours of screen on time. I know everyone's usage is different but that is freakin' amazing in my books. Just over an hour later and I'm back at 100% again. Wow.

My "doze curves" are all flat in the battery graph - some of you look like you have something running on the phone keeping it away. It should not be a diagonal line while sleeping. I typically lose 2-4% over a 8-10 hour sleep with the phone on my nightstand, WiFi on.

Re: Lightflow - I got rid of that POS app ages ago. So full of bugs it was unusable on my N5. I would dismiss notifications and the light would just keep going and going. Most decent apps these days let you customize the light a bit anyway, so I haven't found a need for it. I had the issue in Kitkat and Lolipop, and I read about it now in Marshmallow with no surprise whatsoever.
I'm a career Apple guy, so for me, I basically run the default settings for everything. I'm getting a ton of battery life out of this thing. Really really happy with the phone being at 50% at 7:00 PM

Glad you're happy with it. The battery life on the 6P absolutely destroys what my friend is getting out of his iPhone 6S Plus, and I think Doze is the reason. Pretty much double.

Super jealous. Still getting solid battery life. The thing is no apps are ever d
Shown as a major driver in battery apps. It says my screen.

Seems like I need to root to see what's keeping my phone awake.

Or you have any other ideas?

My phone actually did what your phone did last night (no doze), but it's already back to dozing today, so for now I will chalk it up as a one-time bug. Few other things you can do to increase battery life, and may or may not have anything to do with your phone staying awake:

- Set screen brightness around 50% or whatever you like (not adaptive)
- Location on "battery saving" mode. Only need to use high accuracy mode for Navigation.
- Go into you google account and turn off syncing for everything you don't care about (like sheets, etc.) You can always manually sync them anytime.
- Go into app permissions and turn off permissions that apps don't need (especially location). I also block most apps from sending me notifications (eg. BBC, Netflix, etc - you don't need those useless notifications)
- Uninstall Facebook and Facebook messenger unless you cannot live without it. I am beginning to absolutely despise Facebook, my news feed is 75% ads, invitations to play dumb games, and clickbait. The other 25% is people trying to be online activists - I am not sure which is more annoying.
- Check apps and widgets for refresh settings - news apps, weather widgets, etc. often have auto-refresh cycles which might wake doze
- Go to your battery screen, click on the gear, and make sure your apps are optimized (it can't optimize a couple, such as google play services, that's normal)
- Make sure your google photos is set to upload/sync only on WiFi and only while charging (it does not default to this)
- Turn off all sounds and vibrations associated with unlocking and key presses
- Turn off ambient display (Settings --> Display)
- Turn off Bluetooth until you need it
- Don't allow any apps to send you push notifications (their push service might wake Doze, not sure). Lots of News apps do this.
- Do a factory reset (that helped some other people with the same issue)

Those are all the things I've done anyway, minus the reset.

Turning off push notifications seems extreme no?

I'm going to start with killing adaptive display. I feel like my screen will be dark then randomly light up as it thinks it just got darker or something.

My screen is still accounting for 68 percent of battery usage. Just under 2 hours of SoT

Re: Having battery issues: read me!

any of you guys do any gaming on the phone? i.e., I play summoner's war a good amount and while it was okay on the OPO it absolutely destroys the 6p's battery life. More than 1% a minute for me

Clash of Clans, screen BT 30-40% brightness and lose 1% about every 2-3 minutes.

I don't turn off push notifications globally, and I wouldn't suggest that. Just turn them off individually for useless apps like BBC, Netflix (telling you about new shows), weather updates, etc. You might be surprised how many apps have the ability to send you push notifications. Each to their own of course but I don't need any of that crap getting pushed to my phone. Same with Facebook updates.

My Doze worked last night according to the activity charts, but I lost 4 times the battery life I normally do, and the graph showed a significant battery decline instead of the usual flat line so it looks like I have a similar issue. This is an new issue, and I haven't changed a thing - go figure.

Thanks for the tips. It's strange how inconsistent the battery can be.

Re: Having battery issues: read me!

Light flow now has a legacy version that you can use. There are a couple features you miss out on. but you get the basic functionality back without the persistent notification.
