Google Nexus 6P New Owner ... Thought for prospective buyers

Re: New Owner ... Thought for prospective buyers

For me, it's not that the power button seemed lower, but rather that the power and volume rocker are on the same side. I find myself inadvertently hitting the volume button just when grabbing the phone.
Also, though I'm right-handed, I use my phone much in the same way I use a tablet. I hold it in my left hand and use my right to do stuff on the screen. So....the volume on the left side of the Galaxy S5 was actually better for me.
I'll get used to this though.

Most non Samsung devices have both power and volume buttons on the same side. I know the Nexus, Motorola, HTC, and Sony phones do, and LG puts theirs on the back. At least they're not putting the power button on the top anymore like they did at the start.

Hey folks,

I thought I would follow up with one more point from my original post. The size takes some getting used to and the phone slipped from my hands a couple of times. I ended up going out to Amazon and picking up a Spigen case for it. This case actually made the phone much better. The buttons now have the perfect tactile feel, the case added minimal balk, it is clear so it looks almost as if there's no case at all, and most importantly it feels great in my hand.

I know there is a big debate on whether to have a case or not and my original intention was to leave the phone naked. However, for $10 it actually improved the experience.

Enjoy the holidays!

Totally agree. I was reluctant to get a case due to this phone size (last phone had a 5.2" screen) and didn't want to add bulk. I got the Ringke case and it has made the "large" phone experience better, not worse as I had feared. I don't press the side buttons accidentally, and I work the phone much better with the case on. The case added confidence in use as I also dropped the phone a couple times without a case.

Thanks for your thoughts. I came here looking for validation as I wait on my 6P to arrive next week.

Like you, I'm coming from a Moto X (2013). The size of the phones these days is a bit off putting, so I'm sure it'll take some getting used to. Particularly since I'm an Otterbox Defender holster kind of guy.

I've found a couple of similar sub-$10 holsters on Amazon that I'll try out, but I have a feeling that something this big will feel weird (at best) or be an accident waiting to happen.

Anyone here using case/holster combos?

Somebody, somewhere, right now is stuffing Twinkies in their shorts.
I have, for the most part, ditched otterbox for the SUPCASE heavy duty with belt clip.

Really snug fitting case with lots of protection and a great holster.

Used identical product with iPhone 6 and it was phenomenal (also usually remove built in screen protector), the 6P version is great. In fact, the built in screen protector doesn't leave a gap where the keyboard is, so its very usable!

Hope that helps.

First you can hook up your 2013 X to a computer and find them and copy them off, then do the reverse with the 6p.

Any idea which directory the alarm ringtone resides in? I tried to do exactly as you suggest and cannot find it. I really like the alarm I had on my old phone and would love to reuse it.

Thanks in advance.

Just tried using my file manager app, Astro, and it's under Internal Storage>Alarms. When you open Astro you should already be in Internal Storage (at least it is on my 6p), so just find the Alarms folder, and they should be inside. Like I said above, if you want ringtones, the folder will be named Ringtones, for Alarms it will be in a folder called Alarms, and for notifications, it will be in a folder called Notifications. All three folders should be in the same directory as the Download folder I believe, although the file structure may be different on devices from different manufacturers.

I will say though that if you have cloud storage (either Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, Onedrive, or whatever) I would upload things that you will want to port to new devices regularly (like tones, wallpapers, etc) to your cloud drive. That way, when you switch to the next device, all you need to do is download them from your cloud drive. Most offer anywhere from 1-15GB of storage for free, so it doesn't cost anything to have.
