Google Nexus 7 Tablet (2013) Kit Kat causes a lot of lag

Yes, Ubuntu Linux and Windows 7. My boss at my firm just yesterday joked before leaving for the holiday that he was rebooting his machine for the first time in over 5 months, yet he had no problems working on it every day. He leaves it on round the clock, and it kinda pisses me off being it's not environmentally friendly, but I'm not the boss....

I almost never turn off my stationary computers. I am worried about the environment, but I like to be able to access my files or that certain computer when needed. I have couple little Linux boxes that I will run year round with no issues. When I see issues on my or other peoples computers , it is always some software that bogs down an OS...

REV, what kind of music do you create? I use a couple of my PCs for dibbling and dabbing in media. I am pretty fluent in most computer OS/software, but I have a hard time with music software. I take my hat off to people who just fly through it.

For thread jacking... Happy Thanksgiving everyone if you celebrate it :)

After installing KK I find that it takes about twice as long (~ 1 min) to boot-up from a cold start; and notifications take about another 10 sec to appear after that.
On the other hand, opening my magnetic case cover now reliably wakes up N7 even without wifi being turned on.

Re: Kit Kat causes a lot of lag

I am also experiencing very poor touch screen response on my 3-day old Nexus 7 2013. It automatically updated to Android 4.4 yesterday. After the update, the touch screen was as bad as before.
I just wiped the system cache partition. It does seem to have improved the touch screen, especially when using Chrome.
However, I just encountered a new problem. When logging into any secure website, my ids and passwords are rejected. They work in Chrome and Firefox on my PC, but not in Chrome on my Nexus 7.
I'll look for an appropriate Mobile Chrome subforum and post my question there.

UPDATE: I just installed FIrefox and am getting the same results. I think it may be a problem with the Nexus keyboard app.

Nope, no lag here. Try wiping the system cache partition--this can sometimes help with performance issues after a system update: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...e-nexus-7-2012-2013-cache-partition-wipe.html

Not so much laggy as things not working at all! Apologies if I should start this as a new post. I have the N7 1st gen. I'm having to use 3 different browsers thanks to kitkat incompatability issues. Firefox just doesn't play videos. Chrome is 50/50 depending which site I use and Puffin seems to play most but they are very jerky. These new keyboard smileys don't work on fb or twitter. Apart from a printer option, which you get an app for anyway, I see no benefits so far just reasons to start looking elsewhere.
Please give us an option to revert back to jellybean.

The only problem in kitkat is that touch sounds have gotten a lot lower. Can anybody please confirm this?

No lag for me. Just about the same experience with 4.4 as 4.3

Good to know. I have not used my as much, but I will probably restore mine this weekend or today at the office if I have time. I was waiting for a .1 bug fixing update, lol. I downloaded the 4.3 factory image just a few minutes ago as I may just go back to that until things are clear. I usually don't mind being a pioneer on my devices, but that is when I have multiple devices with various versions. I currently only have one android device, so it just needs to work.

I will say, that the lag is less frequent... May just be my lack of usage. I have had apps downloaded that crash when opened. I understand it, but that is not cool.

You should not accept that an app crashes at anytime, let alone at open. Send a message to author and have them fix it. A crash like this indicates the author is doing something a little strange, or perhaps now forbidden.

Re: Kit Kat causes a lot of lag

My brand new Nexus 7 with almost no apps (Skype, SkyDrive, infinite Flight, OneNote, RD, Netflix, Chase/BoA Banking Apps, and maybe one or two more)... These apps were even running in the background. I was trying to browse the play store and it was so sluggish and lagging with every attempted input. I don't have mail or an other services set up yet. I thought it was maybe my screen protector, but I had no issues before kitkat.

I wish I would have not let it install KitKat as I did not have any issue before hand. It is my fault... I should have read up on the update and waited. I had no expectations for it, other than I would be fine. I see many people were waiting on it... I guess I will just factory reset my device. I have nothing to lose at this point as nothing is set up... It just bugs me that it would have these issues. I could see if I had hacked it or had many apps and services modified. Shoot, it is almost stock... :(

I know in time it will be good, but man I want to go back to jellybean...

Hi, you know what may seriously help?! Well I have 3 suggestions :) 1. Go to youtube & disable the "preloading" that youtube automatically has enabled. Doing that very well might help fix some of the lag u r experiencing...
2. In google play there's a fantastic app called "clean sweep" & it also has an extra scanning app & I HIGHLY SUGGEST DOWNLOADING them (both clean sweep & clean sweep CM, the virus protection app). The reasons for this suggestion is because there's so many benefits: u click on clean sweep & clear junk files as well as using the memory boost & both lower ram & stuff taking up space & slowing things down.
3. In the scan app that clean sweep has, u can "kill apps", SO...when ur tablet or phone sleeps ( once the screen blacks out for any reason) all apps stop running! It causes absolutely no loss of any app info on your device, it simply saves the battery from running out quickly & stops the crap running in the background. I'd suggest trying these 3 things & seeing if it helps :) if it doesn't u can always simply u install the apps, but they take up very little space & r great to protect your device :) hope I helped! Please let me know :) good luck!

I was struggling with this for a while and tried everything. I remembered the fix before with currents and disabling updates but following upgrades currents had gone and been replaced.....or had it? I noticed I could still access currents in the apps file so I uninstalled all updates. Currents was accessible again so I clicked the settings and unchecked updates and hey presto my tablet is quick and responsive again.

Hope this helps anyone else with the pain of lag!

Welcome to Android Central! The final update for Currents simply makes it a dead end app that does nothing except inform you that Google Newsstand has replaced it. This final update of Currents has no settings and shouldn't do anything, so I doubt it was causing any lag. If you uninstall this final update of Currents, then it reverts back to the original version, which was a memory and battery hog.
