Google Nexus 9 The Verge review

Re: The Verge review

I'm still waiting for some more head to head objective reviews between the two, but so far I'm leaning towards the IPad 2.

Re: The Verge review

The verge and Gizmodo i always stay away from, they are biased and always pick apple over Android.

Re: The Verge review

Verge had good things to say about the One X and G3, which is why those have been my last two phones. Gizmodo I've never really read.

Re: The Verge review

The recent update should do a lot to improve the device.

Drivers need updating

Re: The Verge review

Pretty bad: Nexus 9 review | The Verge

Sounds like their main qualm is the lack of display lamination, and a bunch of random, smaller, inflated nit-picky issues.

Lol... You mean to tell me that iVerge.com posted a review in which the cons were "It's not an iPad" and "Because reasons"?

Don't worry about it, man. iVerge is known for being less than objective when it comes to devices not made by Apple.

Re: The Verge review

Wait for a Marques Brownlee. ******* bless that man. A whole ******* company can't deliver impartial reviews, but a single college student can.

" it seems like the OS is just a stretched out phone OS".....

And iPad IOS is different to the iPhone IOS?

I hate reading the verge, its cringe worthy

Re: The Verge review

The Verge review didn't come off as biased to me. They seemed to echo sentiments about the tab I'm reading from other sites. It's nice without feeling like a super high-end premium device. The screen is good, but not outstanding, the speakers aren't as good as The HTC One M8 speakers etc.

Didn't read as biased to me, seem like fair criticisms of the device. And they make a fair point, it's priced similar to the iPad, so for the general consumer which device would they get a better experience out of? I don't think there's bias by suggesting maybe they're better off with an iPad Air 2. What would be biased is if they still recommended the Nexus 9 despite it having an inferior build, inferior screen, software, tablet apps etc than the iPad Air 2. That would be unfair.

Just my take on it.

Only 8 out of the 23 paragraphs did not include the word "Apple" or "iPad", but that still doesn't seem biased or inquisitive to you. They were trying HARD to drive a point (The iPad is miles better yada yada yada...) and not trying to review the product itself.

What kaido said! MKBHD is pretty much the way to ho when you're looking for android reviews.

Well comparisons are going to be made between the Nexus 9 and the iPad. That's inevitable, especially considering the Nexus 9 is now 4:3 ratio. And it's good for the readers so if they were deciding between the tablets, they'd have a source to go to that compares one another.

Some people just want to know 'what's the best tablet I can buy with my money' and reviews which mention the competition put the devices in perspective. Don't see anything wrong with it. And if the Verge find the iPad Air 2 to be the better device worthy of recommendation, I don't see anything wrong with that either. It's their opinion.

Re: The Verge review

I've been playing with the Nexus 9 for about 7 hours now, and I definitely have noticed some issues. As soon as I booted it up I received an update, which I assume is the one everyone referred to that should fix some of quirks people noticed. However, even after the update I have experienced a number of issues.

The tablet definitely gets hot when playing games and watching long videos, and it I've also noticed quite a bit of lag just when opening stock apps like Hangouts or Photos, which seems very weird to me. In fact, the Nexus 9 occasionally lags out for longer periods of time than even my Samsung Note Pro 12.2. I don't want to say these issues won't be ironed out, because this may just be a situation where Lollipop was not quite ready for primetime yet but got pushed out anyway. In any event, I normally hate The Verge and I'm a hardcore Android user, but some of their points are valid in my experience so far.

Hopefully no one jumps on me for making the above comments, I'm just pointing out a few things I've noticed, I have no plans to return the tablet.

And this is the problem. Anyone who says anything negative about an Android product (especially the 'halo' devices, the Nexus line) quickly get shot down as biased or fanboys of another company, which is simply not true. I don't think you're biased, I don't think you're a fanboy or are posting here just to rile up fellow posters. There's nothing wrong with what you've said. You've used the Nexus 9, and have identified issues. Nothing wrong with that. Websites who have reviewed the Nexus 9 also identified issues ranging from the build to the software and have also commented on it. Seems like that's echoed by quite a few sites doing Nexus 9 reviews.

If the Verge were the only ones with a lukewarm review, whereas everyone else had extremely positive reviews, then yeah, sounds strange that one website would have such a view, however many other sites (Android Police, Arstechnica, Gizmodo etc) have also commented on the issues the Verge did. It's not one isolated website.

Is the entire webspace biased and secretly working for Apple? I doubt it. Could it be that the Nexus 9 just isn't as good as something like the iPad Air 2? I think that's entirely plausible.

I don't see why there's anything wrong with making a statement like that, or anything wrong for websites to point out issues with the tablet. It's not a perfect device. Hopefully with updates down the track, it gets better, but if it's not the best tablet on the market right now, that's ok. It's not the end of the world.
