Google Nexus 9 The Verge review

Re: The Verge review

My thing is, as most of the reviews have basically said, the tablet is far from perfect. As with every device, you will have things that are good about a product and bad things as well. I wasn't fortunate enough to get the N9 like most in this forum, since I'm waiting for the sand color to be released. However, I'd be pissed if I bought this device from the recommendations of the reviewers only to discover it wasn't as great as they said it was. I'm good hearing the positive and negative feedback/reviews. Makes my decision to purchase the device easier.

The negative stuff for the most part are nit picking.

Re: The Verge review

I expect issues when I get my nexus 9. As long as it's not anything like my thunderbolt I'll be happy.

Reviews will be biased. Technology will have bugs, esp software ending in '.0'. Things get better they never get perfect.

Re: The Verge review

I don't understand why we get all wild up with these reviewers. I just watch to see what the device has to offer, I also know the best reviewer is myself. I buy what fits my need and likes, that's all that matter. Every individual is different.

Re: The Verge review

I got a Nexus 9 yesterday. My only previous tablet was a Nexus 10. I have no disappointments after a few hours of use. The only apple product I've used is my wife's iPad 2. My use is primarily document, web page viewing/search, and occasional video.
Compared to the tablets I mentioned, the N9 feels light and thin.

We appreciate and encourage your own views as owners of this new device. Please do continue to share :)

Also keep in mind, we know as with past Nexus releases you will see usually an OTA or two within the first couple weeks to fix issues that pop up once consumers start running them thru the paces.

Re: The Verge review

No one who is registered on this site (meaning they are somewhat in the know) should EVER expect an iVerge review of an Android product to be any different. These fools can't review anything non-Apple without mentioning Apple dozens of times. I don't visit their website or follow them on social media. Whenever anything from them comes up, I just pass it up without a second thought. Except in this case, I wanted to comment.

The iVerge is more or less an extension of iMore in the way they report, review, etc.. Not saying it's bad, but only go there if you're wanting pro-Apple and anti-everything else.

Re: The Verge review

I have read most reviews I came across including the mentioned Verge,Gizmodo, Arstechnica, AndroidPolice etc etc
While some things are always subjective my impression is basically this:
Good: Screen, build, performance, speakers
Bad: PRICE, storage options, battery, heat, camera.

The Nexus 9 would have been an outstanding tablet if the price would have been a bit lower and/or it would have had an expansionslot.
The premium for the 32GB model is just ridiculous and is what is a dealbreaker for me. 16GB as standard with no expandability is just Google massively shooting themselves in the foot.
At the current pricepoint for the 32GB version the standards are much much higher. While no Applefanboy the Air is in a different league when it comes to overall presentation and hardware (which one would expect at that price). My dream tablet would be an Air2 running Android ;)
I think one problem here is that most SoC:s are still on 28nm process compared to Apples 20nm A8X and that has a pretty big impact on battery/heat/performance/weight.
I think it will look a bit different in spring when the Snapdragon 810 comes out and hopefully the 20nm succesor to nvidia K1 (Eristra).
Also Android tablets with the new intel CoreM have pretty good potential.
I was really really looking forward to getting the Nexus 9 but the lack of storage is just a dealbreaker.

Re: The Verge review

The Verge review didn't come off as biased to me. They seemed to echo sentiments about the tab I'm reading from other sites. It's nice without feeling like a super high-end premium device. The screen is good, but not outstanding, the speakers aren't as good as The HTC One M8 speakers etc.

Didn't read as biased to me, seem like fair criticisms of the device. And they make a fair point, it's priced similar to the iPad, so for the general consumer which device would they get a better experience out of? I don't think there's bias by suggesting maybe they're better off with an iPad Air 2. What would be biased is if they still recommended the Nexus 9 despite it having an inferior build, inferior screen, software, tablet apps etc than the iPad Air 2. That would be unfair.

Just my take on it.

I am inclined to agree. They seem Apple-centric, but they admit to the 9 having its fair share of pros. Their Nexus 10 review was pretty good. They admitted that, back in 2012, it was a damn fine tablet that only exhibited a fair-but-few growing pains. A truly biased source would consistently nitpick and undervalue.

Additionally, most of their criticism of the 9 are starting to appear on myriad other sites. The center of the back flexing, light-bleed in the display (seriously? this again?), heating up, stuttering in menus, etc. As with the 10, I am going to wait a few months before seriously considering the Nexus 9. I want to give Lollipop some time to settle in, and give HTC some time to possibly work out some physical kinks and update the QA. I'm sure a good thread will appear on XDA with a guide of how to shop the serial numbers.
