Google Now crashing after 07Dec16 update

AC Question

Google Now begins to load, then shuts off on my HTC One m7. Problem began after a Google update. I've tried rebooting the phone, clearing the cache, but no luck.

Same phone. Same problem.

I have the M7 and the app now crashes every time I open the Google app, since about the same time. I can clear all the data (app called launcher1) on my phone for it to work once after going through the setup. Or I can get it to work by reverting back to the factory version of the Google app (but eventually this automatically updates anyway) which is pretty old now. Super annoying, at least let me roll back one update, rand set it to not automatically update? Rather than having to choose latest or 4 year old version. . Or google fixing the issue would be nice too.

Same for me on HTC One M7. I tried various things and the app will work the first time you open it after an update or similar things, but will crash every other time. A solution from Google or even a fix from other users would be highly appreciated

Same here on Vodafone Smart Ultra - Lollipop 5.1.1.

Since around beginning of December, Google Now will load after a long press of the home button but will shut again after barely a second.

Completely removing and reinstalling Google and Google now, after cleaning apps data, didn't resolve the issue on my HTC m7

It seems related to Google feed preferences. If I change Google account, it starts working again. I tried to delete feed preferences for my main account, but I get a network error message.

I think I've found a solution to this:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Google App
  • Click the 'Manage space' button
  • Click 'Clear All Data'
  • Launch the Google Now app. You'll be prompted to opt in and setup your feed.

The proposed solution works exactly once, I'm sad to say.

Once you start up the second time (I did via the widget), the behavior returns, and the app crashes. Ugh, I see another rolback to pre-December '16 in my future. :-
