It has a lot to do with money. Google is far wealthier than Apple, and a legal battle with Apple would cripple Apple deeply even if they managed some sort of ruling in their favor.

Apple doesn't want a royalty. Apple continually seeks to ban Samsung's products.

Erm. Google is not far wealthier than apple. Not at all.

It's not another suit. It's adding another device to a preexisting suit.

Also, Samsung was found to infringe the Siri patents in the past, hence the reason they're being added to this suit.

Unfortunately, the first win against Samsung may have locked apple into seeing through these other suits. Since Samsung will not settle, if apple doesn't pursue these suits to the end then the court will ask why.

It surely is great in the sense of the effectiveness of the campaign, but not so great in the impact that campaign has on the public...

I think it is great as lots of people really think that it is all true and take Apple's or Google's side while both companies are winning.
