Hey Guys,
I got an unlocked galaxy nexus right before the injunction went through and when I receive it I flashed the preview version of 4.1 almost immediately. Everything was smooth sailing until the 4.1 OTA was announced. Being the good little boy that I am, I decided to return my nexus to it's factory 4.04 state and wait for the OTA to hit...

So I got impatient, haha, and grabbed the OTA file that was announced on XDA and flashed my nexus to jelly bean manually. Everything was smooth sailing once again until I started to try using the voice capabilities through google now.

When I launch google now, and press the microphone to do something like set an alarm or other various search, it sits on "initializing" for a very long time, sometimes never switching to "speak now". I didn't have this problem with the 4.1 preview version because I showed several friends and family members over the course of a few days how cool the feature was.

I guess I'm justing wondering if anyone else is seeing this and also if anyone thinks that once a full factory image of 4.1 is available for the galaxy nexus flashing that might help.

I haven't seen this yet, have you tried using a jb rom or something of the sort to see if its just a bug with what you have now?

I am having the same issue identically. I am 100 percent stock and got the jelly bean update over the air. It says initializing about half the time

I've tried restarting the device several times. It seems to be hit or miss really. I'm new to android after being on an iPhone for several years. When google updates a nexus device to a newer version of the OS, will they eventually release a factory ROM of the new OS or will the only way to do a clean restore be to install ICS and then patch with the OTA again?

Luckily it looks like google has posted the stock factory image for the GNex so we can flash straight back to that and see if that resolves it. now if I could just find my micro usb cable :P

FWIW - I'm on Toro, running a flavor of AOSP 4.1.1. I was having this same issue... I just flashed the most recent version I could find of GApps (0811), and that solved my issue. Voice recognition in GNow came up immediately.

Must have 3rd party recovery (ClockworkMod Recovery, et al) and be rooted (to my knowledge). You'll want to boot into recovery, flash the .zip from there, then boot up.
