google people app--don't want photos

In my favorites in Google "People" and my phone app, there is a space where pictures are supposed to be. I don't use pictures, I don't to want to use pictures, I don't want to use the space of pictures. How do I change that setting. It is not obvious to me and I have looked everywhere I can think of.

(and this website androidcentral, is helpful, but really annoying with all the ads.)

Pictures are standard, you cannot change the default. The ads pay for the service so that you do not have to pay something like a subscription fee.
