Samsung tab 4. Google photos app.
Editor shows, all options are available and sliders move but do not to make changes to photos. Any ideas?

Tried so far.
Deleted app cache and data.
Uninstalled and re- installed app.
Still not editing.

Same problem on other halves Tab 4.

Are the photos saved locally or in the cloud? If they're local, are they saved to Internal Storage or the SD card?

The photos are stored in the cloud. I have also tried to edit a photo stored on an sd card with the same result. This is only a problem on the Samsung tab 4. My Moto G5 and Lenovo laptop edit with no problem.

Could it be that Android 4.4.2, KitKat is not supported by Google photos for editing?

i assume this is already on, but make sure the Backup & Sync toggle in the Photos app settings is turned on.

I have just noticed that in the assistant, the option to make movie is missing. I am now convinced that this version of Google photos is not fully compatible with KitKat.

That's the most up to date version, and the one I have on my Pixel devices. You're probably right, KitKat is most likely too old to support all of the Google Photos features. When i did a search, i could only find information about how Jellybean support was dropped, but it's certainly possible that KitKat support is only partial at this point.

Thanks for your thoughts. It was something I have been trying to figure out for some time. It's not a major problem as I can edit on my Moto G5 and Win 10 laptop. At some point I will have to update my tablet.
Cheers, Kodak2.

A little followup -- I just experienced what you were describing, and for me, it was because the photo I was trying to edit was one I initially downloaded. Here's the sequence of what happened to me:

1. Downloaded a photo that was attached to an email from a friend.
2. Used a file manager app to copy that photo to the /DCIM/Camera directory so that it would get automatically uploaded to my Google Photos in the cloud. (I don't have Google Photos set up to automatically back up the Download directory.)
3. Opened Google Photos app and tried to crop that photo, but noticed that after I saved it, it didn't show up in Google Photos with the crop edit.
4. Opened the file manager again, and noticed that the edited photo was actually in the /Download directory (where I downloaded that attached photo in the first place). So although I thought I was editing the photo in the cloud, the Google Photos editor was actually editing the copy in the /Download directory, and then saving that edit as a separate file.
5. Once I deleted the original downloaded pic from the /Download directory and then went back to Google Photos to edit the photo, then the edit saved properly.

See if that corresponds to what your situation is.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately the problem on KK is happening even on photos taken on the device. (No change to the preview photo as the sliders are moved).
Today's Google photos update didn't rectify the problem.

Bummer.:-\ Using the My Files app (or any other file manager), try looking in the /DCIM/Camera directory and see if you can find any actual photo files of those edits.

Yes, found an image that I experimented with, and yes, it was edited, but I am working blind in Google photos because the preview image which should show the changes wasn't showing those changes.

All very strange. It silll is pointing to incompatibility between Google photos and KitKat.

Is that image file in the /DCIM/Camera directory of Internal Storage or of the SD card? If the latter, then see if the same thing happens for image files in Internal Storage.

What about this? Select a picture, make some basic edit like cropping, tap 'Done' and instead of 'Save' tap the three dots top right and select 'Save Copy'. Do you get the same problem when editing this copy?

Even with the problem with the save button not working, without being able to see changes made during the edit you are working blind and only able to guess how the phone would turn out.

Bit of a longshot.
Is it possible that because KK has Google Gallery built in and appears to be linked in some way to Google photos. All Google photos images are showing in Google Gallery in a similar way to Google photos. Unfortunately this app will not uninstall or even force stop

Google Gallery screen shot showing the link to Google photos.

Yeah I understood that. I think I didn't explain very well what I mean. And it's a long shot as well :)

My idea is create a new file. Make a basic edit, save a copy, open this copy and see if the editor features work this time. Maybe these features could work on a file created directly by Google Photos instead of the original file from the camera.
