Google photos can't load photo.

I always back up all my photos & videos to Google photos on my phone but when I went to look at some pictures I took in August some where just grey squares & when I clicked on it, it said it couldn't load the photo. What's happened to some of my pictures? Is it coz I have a different sd card in my phone?

Also discovered another problem. I booted phone in to recovery mode & cleared the cache but it hasn't made any difference in memory I'm still at 15.35GB/16GB's. All pictures & videos are on the sd card. How can I free up memory?
