Android Central Question

My google photos app somehow decides that each individual image, to include assets for other apps, such as icons, image assets for games etc, shows up in the device folders. What happens is it'll try to ask me to back up all these folders, hundreds, or thousands of them, each containing some image assets from other apps. How do I stop this behavior? May be specify what folders I want to back up so it stops looking at my whole device?

Welcome to Android Central! This will happen with any gallery app, not just Google Photos. The problem is that the developers for those apps are neglecting to add a file called ".nomedia" (without the quotes but with the leading period) to the directories that contain these images. .nomedia instructs the system to ignore that directory when scanning for images to add to the gallery database. You can create a blank file titled .nomedia (using a file manager app) in those directories, and that ought to hide them from Photos.
