Google photos vs Gallery? Using double your memory?

Ok, so there are two apps you can use for pic viewing and editing: gallery vs google photos.

Taken Pics go to both apps, seemingly doubling your used memory.
Are people using both? Or disabling one?

Also I noted that a captured screenshot won't go to the gallery but will go to google photos where u can edit it etc.

Also, google pix and gallery have good post processing apps but u can't write text on the pix or at least I can figure it out.

The Photos and Gallery apps do not store photos separately; they both have read/write access to (mostly) the same directories. Photos generally caches items stored online in your cloud storage as well as providing access to see photos stored on the device, while Gallery generally will remain in the realm of "on device". Both have similar access to other image repository folders, such as "downloads", "screenshots", etc.

Thanks.
I started snooping around and looks like gallery also backs up in Verizon cloud.

I can't find my captured screenshots in the gallery file. Onlygoogle photos.

Anyone know how to write text on the pics from both apps?

There's at least one app that does that - someone posted a link to it the other day. I didn't save the link, but https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...id=com.km.draw.photodraw&hl=en&token=Mo6EdqPo seems to be able to do what you want.

BTW, the way Android works is that when you start (or restart) it, a scanner scans the phone for media files, then makes a list of them. All media apps look in that list to see what to display. So Gallery, Photos, QuickPic - they're all showing you the same file. Gallery has some things that Photos doesn't, Photos has some things that Gallery doesn't, but they're both showing the same picture files, they're not duplicating them..

Ive written text on images before. I just can't figure out how to do it again. Seemed so easy at the time.

Yes, I've noticed that they do slightly different things things. Not sure which will be my 'go to' app but since screenshots don't post to gallery... It leaves google photo as the default for me

Just discovered that adding text to pix was done thru the messenger plus text app. Not Google or gallery.

It may be due to Google gallery that they don't post to Stock gallery.
I only have stock gallery and my screen shots are always there.

On my device the screenshots do get posted to stock gallery but you have to select albums to view it. Got that helpful hint from moto forums.

Does anyone know of a Gallery app that will allow me to make folders and move pictures into them? The Turbo has set folders and I'd like to be able to shuffle images around without a PC.

Edit: Never mind, I found a good app called Quick Pic

I dont think you can do it through the viewing apps like gallery or photos. Those apps just let you view the photos on your phone. Youll have to download a file viewer and go into your phones internal memory and then add folders. I personally like google photos because you can view all photos on the phone including screenshots and downloads etc. The gallery app only does pictures from the camera. One con of the google photos app is that it sometimes takes a lot if time to delete photos for some reason, the Motorola gallery is instant

As Eclipse2K noted, you can do this with the third party app QuickPic, which has long been a popular replacement gallery for Android phones.

The gallery app only does pictures from the camera.

If you tap the menu (hamburger) icon top left in Gallery, you can tap "Albums" and then access all of the folders on your phone that have images in them, as if they are separate albums.

Is there a way to take a few images from the gallery and put them in a homepage folder for ultra quick reference? I have a couple pix that I often have to refer to but they are currently really deep on the list and have to significantly scroll to get to them.
