I've not heard of a Grancy Graybeard tree, but it's beautiful!
Do a Google search on "Grancy Graybeard tree" and you can learn all about it. It isn't commonly grown and seldom found in nurseries but it certainly should be. Amazingly it's native to the Eastern United States. I've had people knock on my door to ask what it is. It's the most spectacular tree in the neighborhood in the spring.
I have dozens of dogwoods on my acreage and the Grancy Graybeard flowers aren't even close to looking like dogwood flowers. I just went outside and took a closeup of the flowers on my tree. You can see why it is also called the "Fringe Tree".

Just North of NYC? Have you been to the Walkway Over the Hudson near Poughkeepsie? I was there in the fall a couple years ago...
I could hear a bullfrog in there but couldn't find him! Lol//uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180430/7eb58cb11df26f126a3172529064d888.jpg
