Google pixel original phone microphone not working?

[Android Central Question]

I got this phone about 13 months ago, unfortunately i've had many problems with it, mainly what seems to be battery failure. I was calling my friend yesterday and of course, the microphone suddenly stopped working. I tried restarting my phone, and that didn't work. It has been a day and after much research i don't know if i can save it. I can't record audio, all i hear is static. Is there any solution or do i need a replacement?

I did that, when i go into camera to record sound to see if it's an app causing the issue, a bubble pops up saying that another app is using the mic? I have all apps closed out except camera.

That's odd -- it says that while in Safe Mode? I'm not sure what preinstalled app would be keeping the mic occupied. You might need to consider a factory reset after backing up your important data.
