Google Pixel XL or LG V20?

I am going to post this in the LG V20 forum as well but I want view points from BOTH sides. I know there will be some bias which is why I will do that.

I am returning my iPhone 7 Plus tomorrow and moving to Android full time. The 128 GB Pixel XL is back ordered until December. The 32 GB Pixel XL is shipping November 2nd but with twins on the way I need something with more storage. I will be taking a lot of pictures, videos, and I like to have movies on my phone. I do not feel 32 GB would suffice.

The LG V20 is in stock locally and reviews have been great. I like the 5.7" screen and I also like the 2nd screen on it.

I have never had a Google or LG phone so I am looking for advice. Thanks!

Spend some time with both devices in in your hand before you choose. Ergonomics are important. While I loved my 6P for media consumption, it larger than I needed for anything else. I find the Pixel much easier in the hand.

Also, with those twins on the way, don't underestimate the value of the photos backup.

I'm struggling with exact same decision. If I thought 32gb would be enough then it would be pixel xl all the way. But I don't think it is, and I can't wait until December to get a new phone. Ugh

Y'all know you have unlimited storage for photos and videos with Google photos right? And before you say "I need 2000 pictures and videos on my phone locally in case my connection goes out and I want to show my friends at that exact moment that my connection went out" the pictures will still show with no connection...

They will? I'm torn because I don't need 128, but my 64gb Note5 is sitting at 29gb used with only about 20pics, and no music. 32gb will be cutting it close for me, or maybe in just being stupidly phobic about it

I understand that but do you think it'll hold a lot of movies? I travel 6 hours home often and if my wife drives I watch a couple movies. If we fly, I watch a movie. I have a lot of movies which is why 32 GB would not work for me. Unless movies do not take a lot of space.

Yeah, pretty sure they're kinda cached on the phone in some way. I was just on a 4 hour flight today and had the phone in airplane mode, but was still able to look through all my photos.

Well sounds like you have a ton of app data, which Google photos, drive, and music won't help with haha

Better to have 128 and need 32 than to have 32 and need 128 - IMO - if you can stretch the $$s to get a 128 , go for it. Sometimes ya' just gotta get what you want and throw caution to the wind - :D

Good luck with the twins Josh

I load mine in to Play movies and my music in play music. When I know I'm gonna be on a plane and want to watch movies or listen to music, I download what I want to the device on my wifi network before I leave the house. Then when I return from my trip, I delete everything off the device to keep my storage clean.

I mean, unless you're watching the same 20 movies over and over, you're sort of doing the same thing. Load 20 on, when they're watched, delete and load another 20 or whatever.

So you got me curious, and I started poking around. First thing I noticed is that of my 29gbs being used, a huge amount of that(10.98 gb) is "System", and another large chunk is all the Amazon/Verizon/NFL/ other bloatware apps that won't be on the Pixel...hmmm

I been using my Pixel XL 128gb since Tuesday morning and it's been 4 days now. I upgrade for the nexus 6p to the pixel. One of the reasons was exactly what you described, I have a 2 year old and a 11 month year old and when I try to take pics with the Nexus 6p great camera it's hard bc the camera is slow to shoot and the kids are always moving and get a lot of blurry pics. With this phone omg it was day and night, it snaps the picture even with HDR turned on and comes out so beautiful. I haven't seen/used an LG V20 so I can't comment on the camera for that device, but for the PIXEL XL i'm blown away. You can listen in to Android Centrals PODCAST and they talk a lot about the camera and how great it is here - > Android Central 312: A win for Google, a loss for everyone else | Android Central

Worth a shot to listen.. Btw you get a pixel you have 15 days to return it, thanks

I have 4 years of pictures that transfered to my pixel and I still am only at 29gb of storage and 19gb left.

I probably have 500 or more pictures.

I get movies may take up a lot more storage, but who stores a bunch of movies? . The same guy that has a 1000 dvds in one corner and 500 vhs tapes sitting next to the old tube tv?

I played with the v20. Great phone but I'm not a fan of the look. People have given the pixel a hard time for being "bland" or "boring" but I think it's the opposite. It's very sleek and the v 20 although very think seems kind of bulky to me for some reason

Also I am not a fan of LG software. I owned the LG g2, g3, and, g4, and was really turned off by the madness that coincided with the g4 software resetting on so many devices.

It's a personal preference! Go with the one you like most, I'm sick of the LG look and want something different so I went Google, maybe you'll feel differently.

Go to a local Verizon store and play with the devices before you making a decision

Well I ended up with the 32GB Pixel XL! After watching/reading some reviews I figured I could save some money this way. I downloaded all the apps I will ever use and they take up 2.52GB and the "system" takes up 5.39GB. Total used is 8.77GB of the 29.70GB available. Which means I have basically 21GB of storage left. Any pictures of videos I will load to the Google Photos so they won't take up space. Overall, I am happy with my decision! My case and screen protector will to me Tuesday morning thankfully!

Excellent!!

I for my 32 gb Pixel XL a few days ago and I am up to a whopping 10 gb used!!! I also purchased a holder for an sd card that will plug into my camera - so I can remove pictures on the go if I need to.... So great deal!!!

It's amazing how little storage I use honestly. Plus with unlimited backup of pictures and videos I will never go over 10-15GB on the phone. Which is great! I just could not justify the extra $100+ for the 128 when this is all I will use storage wise!

If you're having twins (even if not twins), you might want to consider something a little smaller in size. I had a Note 5 when my son was born. It wasn't very easy to use one handed when he fell asleep in my arms, which happen everyday.

I ended up selling my note and getting an S6 (this was almost a year ago). When he became closer to 4-6 months, he started sleeping more often in a crib and started to dislike being carried more and more because he wants to try and crawl and play with stuff.

Just something to consider.
